The G-Central Top 15 is a list of the overall best G-Shock watches for 2019. The criteria for ranking include features, style, value, and popularity. This list is ever-evolving and regularly updated to include the most current G-Shock releases. We’ve included a wide range of G-Shock models with a variety of features and styles to help you find the best G-Shock watch that fits your needs.
Why Buy A G-Shock? Casio G-Shock watches are widely regarded as the toughest watches in the world, and every G-Shock model is designed to take an extreme amount of abuse that would render most other watches broken and useless. The raised bezels of G-Shock watches provide impact protection, and the superb 200-meter water resistance allows G-Shock watches to be used for any activity in any environment. The quartz movement of a G-Shock is highly accurate, and some models are equipped with automatic time syncing features that ensure precise accuracy on a daily basis. The basic features like the stopwatch and timer are useful in everyday life, and more advanced features are available for specific outdoor activities. G-Shock watches generally don’t need any maintenance and can be trusted to operate as intended. Not only are G-Shock watches extremely durable and practical, they also offer a rugged style that is unmatched by other brands. In addition to making useful tool watches, G-Shock has evolved into a popular streetwear fashion brand that offers a large variety of unique timepieces.
About G-Shock Features: All current G-Shock watches feature shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance. Most G-Shocks also have a daily alarm or multiple alarms, world time, EL or LED backlight, stopwatch, countdown timer, adjustable hourly time signal, auto calendar, button tone on/off, and 12/24 hour time format. The most basic and affordable models lack some features such as multiple alarms with snooze alarm, world time, button tone on/off, and auto light activation. Some G-Shocks have other useful features like Tough Solar power (chargeable by the sun or fluorescent lighting) and Multi-Band 6 (automatic time calibration via radio wave reception, a.k.a. “Wave Ceptor” or “Radio Controlled”). Some high-end G-Shock watches such as some in the professional Master of G line have the Triple Sensor including a pressure sensor (altimeter-barometer), compass, and thermometer. Bluetooth mobile link is becoming more common in mid-range and high-end models and allows the watch to sync the time through the internet. For a list of more features see our G-Shock glossary.
We’ve included a broad range of G-Shock watches in our Top 15, but there are many other deserving models that had to be excluded. CONS: No Multi-Band 6 radio timekeeping
BEST FOR: Work, travel

An affordable and trusted military favorite
The DW-9052-1V is referred to as the “standard issue” G-Shock and is often seen worn by military personnel around the world. It is one of the cheapest G-Shock watches available, but is just as tough as the more expensive models. The DW-9052-1V has an extra-rugged case design with button guards and an easily-accessible front EL backlight button. For those who need excellent visibility in the dark, the EL backlight illuminates the entire LCD display with a blue/green hue for easy viewing. CONS: Maybe not at stylish as other G-Shock models
BEST FOR: Military, extreme sports
13. G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1 Full-Metal Stainless Steel
The original G-Shock is reborn as a classy stainless steel watch.
When the GMW-B5000D-1 was first released during the 35th Anniversary in 2018, it was an absolute sensation and nearly impossible to get a hold of one. Now that things have calmed down, and it is readily available at non-inflated prices, we can wholeheartedly recommend it. The GMW-B5000D-1 is modeled after the original G-Shock but in a fully stainless steel form. Due to its lineage, features, and build quality, it is highly regarded by both G-Shock fanatics and general watch enthusiasts. It’s hard to argue that this isn’t the best-looking full-metal G-Shock ever made.
The GMW-B5000D-1 has full shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance like any other G-Shock. Casio also added the latest technology such as Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 automatic radio timekeeping, and Bluetooth mobile link which allows the watch to automatically sync the time through a smartphone. The Bluetooth connection also provides other features such as easy watch setting, reminder alerts with descriptions, a time and place log, and a phone finder function. G-Shock purists will appreciate the full stainless steel inner case and screw-lock case back (like the original G-Shock).
The GMW-B5000 series is also available in gold or black IP versions as well versions with resin bands.
PROS: Stainless steel case , DLC-coated screw-back, solar-powered, Multi-Band 6 radio wave timekeeping, Bluetooth mobile link
CONS: Relatively heavy for a G-Shock
BEST FOR: Living the G-life
12. G-Shock GA-700-1B Extra-Large Analog Watch
An extra-large analog-digital model with front light button and 5-year battery
The GA-700 Series was introduced in late 2016, and is on its way to becoming another modern classic. It was the first affordable analog-digital G-Shock watch with a convenient front-facing LED light button. Another standout feature is the estimated 5-year battery life which is the longest for a non-solar analog G-Shock watch. It also has a dedicated one-press button to start the stopwatch from timekeeping mode and a target time alert. The GA-700 continues the G-Shock trend of an extra-large rugged case (53.4 mm-wide, larger than a GA-100) combined with a 3D index and large analog hands. The face also includes an LCD display for features like world time, stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 daily alarms with 1 snooze alarm, and 12/24 hour format. The basic black GA-700-1B is a best-seller, and other popular military-inspired colors are available in the Utility Color Series seen above.
PROS: Longest battery life for a non-solar analog G-Shock, front LED light button, large buttons
CONS: Reverse LCD display may be hard to see in low light
BEST FOR: Sports, outdoors, all-purpose
11. G-Shock GA-800-1A Traditional-Style Analog-Digital Watch
A mid-size G-Shock with a third analog hand and unique stopwatch features
The GA-800-1A has a number of unique features. It is the only smaller “mid-size” G-Shock (48.6 millimeters wide) with a third analog hand to display the second (a feature usually reserved for higher-end models). It is also one of the few mid-size analog G-Shocks with a front-facing light button for easy access. This watch also has a one-press stopwatch button that will activate the stopwatch immediately from timekeeping mode and a 120-record lap time memory that includes the date and time. These features make the GA-800-1A a recommended choice for sports and training, though its straightforward design makes it suitable for anyone who needs a weekend watch. The three-handed design and smaller size may appeal the first-time G-Shock buyer who wants a more traditional style and who may be apprehensive about the larger sizes of other G-Shock models.
PROS: Traditional analog style, one-press stopwatch start, lap time memory
CONS: Not solar (approximate 3-year battery life), no world time (but has dual time)
BEST FOR: Training, sports, all-around
10. G-Shock G-SQUAD GBD-800 Training Watch
The best G-Shock for running and fitness
The GBD-800 is part of the G-SQUAD line of fitness-oriented watches and has unique features like Bluetooth mobile connectivity, a pedometer, and specialized stopwatch and timer functions. For those looking to be more active, the Step Tracker allows a daily goal to be set with a step goal progress display and a step count graph for the past 11 hours. Serious runners will find the stopwatch target time (with 10 settable target times) and 200-record lap memory (with date and lap/split times) useful in achieving new personal bests. Interval training is also possible with the programmable timer (with 5 sets repeatable up to 10 times). Those who desire the most accurate timekeeping will find the watch’s Bluetooth feature useful, as the automatic time adjustment feature will sync the time through a smartphone four times per day. This is the most affordable G-Shock watch with Bluetooth connectivity, and it is a mid-size G-Shock suitable for men and women. The G-SQUAD line is also available in an analog-digital version with the GBA-800 series, but those who plan to use the stopwatch and timer frequently should opt for the larger digital display of the GBD-800.
PROS: Bluetooth mobile connectivity, step counter, specialized stopwatch and interval timer features, lap memory
CONS: Not solar
BEST FOR: Running, walking, fitness, athletic training
9. G-Shock G-9300-1 Mudman Solar Compass Watch
Solar-powered digital G-Shock with compass and thermometer sensors
Though flashier models have taken the spotlight recently, the G-9300-1 Mudman remains a solid performer that offers excellent value. Equipped with Tough Solar power and a Twin Sensor (with compass and thermometer), the Mudman is a maintenance-free digital watch with useful features for everyone. The G-9300-1 is a large-case model, but it is the smallest G-Shock watch with a compass sensor. The Mudman line goes way back to the 1980s and was responsible for laying the foundation for the Master of G series of professional-grade G-Shock watches. The current Mudman retains the extra-rugged mud-and-dust-resistant structure while maintaining a classic G-Shock look that is understated yet tough.
PROS: Smallest and most affordable compass sensor G-Shock
CONS: Buttons are harder to press due to mud-resistant design
BEST FOR: Hiking, trekking, travel, military
8. G-Shock GA-2000 with Carbon Core Guard
G-Shock enters the carbon era with a new affordable model
The G-Shock GA-2000 series utilizes the Carbon Core Guard structure which is billed as G-Shock’s “third material” after resin and metal. The watch’s inner casing is made of fine resin reinforced by carbon fiber that allows for a lighter and stronger design. The improved shock-resistant structure provides a sleeker and slimmer look than the usual chunky G-Shock shapes. (The GA-2000 is slightly smaller and lighter than the best-selling GA-100.) The GA-2000 also has quick-release levers built into the bands for easy removal. Casio plans to sell a variety of different bands separately including cloth and Velcro bands, and 24-mm quick release bands from other manufacturers will also fit. Other unique features include lay-flat bands, guardless buttons, a dual-layer stainless steel and resin case back, and a convenient front LED light button.
PROS: Lightweight, relatively slim, easily removable bands
CONS: Not solar-powered, approximate 3-year battery life
BEST FOR: All-purpose
7. G-Shock GG-B100-1A3 Mudmaster Sensor Watch
An affordable Mudmaster with the Triple Sensor and carbon fiber bezel
The GG-B100-1A3 Mudmaster improves on the popular GG-1000 series with the addition of a pressure sensor (altimeter and barometer) and step counter, a front light button, a carbon fiber bezel, and a carbon fiber reinforced case. The Bluetooth features include a mission log function to record the altitude and GPS location, a location indicator to display the distance and direction (with the LCD display and the second hand of the watch) of a destination, a calorie calculator, automatic time adjustment, and a phone finder function. The GG-B100 is also unique in that the order of the main menu can be customized.

BEST FOR: Trekking, extreme outdoor activities
6. G-Shock GW-6900-1 Mid-Size Solar Digital Watch
A proven classic case design favored for military use, combined with modern features
The GW-6900-1 is the most advanced version of the popular 6900 line and features Tough Solar power and Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time syncing. This model has one of the most iconic and long-running G-Shock cases along with the 5000-5600 series. It started off as the DW-6600 in 1994 which was the first G-Shock to use the “EL backlight” that illuminates the entire background of the display, and the DW-6600 was known as the Navy SEAL G-Shock. The GW-6900-1 retains the same user-friendliness as the DW-6600 and its successor the DW-6900 but with more advanced features like world time, multiple (5) daily alarms, and a full auto EL backlight (that can be set to automatically activate in the dark with a turn of the wrist), along with the usual features like the stopwatch and countdown timer.
With its straightforward design and easy-access front backlight button, the GW-6900-1 is recommended for military use or any job that demands reliable timekeeping. The GW-6900-1 is a mid-size watch that is also suitable for smaller wrists but it wears a little larger than the 5600 line.
PROS: Solar power and auto time adjustment, front EL backlight button
CONS: No sensors
BEST FOR: Military, work, all-purpose

5. G-Shock GA-100-1A1 Large Analog-Digital Watch
A simple but effective best-selling model
Part of the new breed of large analog-digital G-Shock watches that revitalized the brand in the 2010s, the GA-100 is one of the best-selling models and has become a modern classic. The GA-100 series reaffirmed G-Shock’s status as an innovator of practical and fashionable timepieces. The GA-100-1A1 features a design inspired by an airplane’s instrument panel with high-contrast analog hands and an anti-magnetic structure. It also has an LCD display for functions like the stopwatch and countdown timer. Other features include an auto LED light, world time, and 5 daily alarms. The GA-100-1A1 is a popular choice for police and other uniformed workers. Younger people view the GA-100 series as an iconic G-Shock case and tend to favor the large analog style over the digital models. For gifts or first time G-Shock buyers who mainly need a watch to tell the time, this is one of the safest choices.
PROS: Classic large case, straightforward design, high-visibility analog hands
CONS: Estimated 2-year battery life
BEST FOR: Police, outdoor jobs, all-purpose

4. G-Shock GW-5000-1JF Origin Tribute Screw-Back Watch
The closest in design and spirit to the original G-Shock watch
Though this list originally excluded Japan-only models, the GW-5000-1JF deserves a place on it because of its well-deserved status and popularity around the world. What makes this watch so special is that it is a tribute to the original G-Shock DW-5000C from 1983 but with updated technology, is made in Japan, and has a stainless steel inner case with a screw-lock case back and DLC coating. Also, it is not a limited edition but a regularly produced model in Japan, so it is not hard to find and purchase for a reasonable price. The outer face design has a cleaner, more subdued style, and the updated modern features include Tough Solar power and Multi-Band 6 automatic radio timekeeping. The original G-Shock from 1983 also had this inner stainless steel case and screw-back structure, but it was abandoned for a resin inner case in later models. With its superior build quality and classic lineage, the GW-5000-1JF is one of the finest examples of a G-Shock.
PROS: Screw-back with DLC coating, made in Japan, Tough Solar/Multi-Band 6, original G-Shock case
CONS: Has a premium price
BEST FOR: G-Shock purists, watch collectors
3. G-Shock GWG-1000-1A3 Mudmaster Solar Analog-Digital Watch
The toughest-looking analog-digital G-Shock with Triple Sensor
The GWG-1000-1A3 Mudmaster made its debut in the fall of 2015 and was the most highly anticipated new model since the Rangeman. The Mudmaster is a serious analog-digital upgrade of the popular Mudman series. The Mudmaster resembles the beefy Rangeman combined with an analog watch, making it one of the best-looking tactical-style analog G-Shocks. It inherits the Rangeman’s guarded button structure and is resistant to mud and dust. Its analog movement is also resistant to extreme vibration. This “ABC” watch has the Triple Sensor that includes an altimeter, barometer, compass, and thermometer. It also has Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 radio wave timekeeping, and a sapphire crystal for extra scratch-resistance.
At 59.5 × 56.1 × 18.0 mm, the GWG-1000 is one of the larger G-Shock watches. The digital Rangeman GW-9400 and analog-digital Gulfmaster GWN-1000 offer similar features at lower prices, but the Mudmaster offers an extremely confident look that embodies the best elements of G-Shock design and takes the analog style to a new level of toughness. It is billed as the ideal watch for rescue workers, and it will certainly appeal to those in other physically demanding professions.
PROS: Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, Triple Sensor, sapphire crystal, very rugged design
CONS: Reverse LCD display
BEST FOR: Large wrists, extreme environments

2. G-Shock GW-9400-1 Rangeman Solar Digital Survival Watch
An affordable fan-favorite with survival features
The GW-9400 Rangeman is the most popular watch in Casio’s Master of G signature G-Shock line of professional-use watches. Its success can be attributed to the Triple Sensor (altimeter-barometer, compass, thermometer) feature, its aggressively bulky appearance that offers extreme shock protection, and its reasonable price.
The Rangeman is resistant to mud and dust with its protected button structure, and the sensors are easily accessed with a single button. It is a good choice for those who like the old-school digital style of G-Shock but also want the latest features at an affordable price. It is one of the most functional tactical watches available with features like sunrise/sunset data, low-temperature resistance, 1000-hour stopwatch, 24-hour countdown timer, and 40 record memory for date/time, bearing, and atmospheric pressure and temperature readings. As an advanced G-Shock model, it also has Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6. It is the best choice for a serious all-around outdoor or survival watch, as its digital structure will theoretically handle more abuse than a watch with mechanical moving parts. If you could only have one G-Shock, the Rangeman would likely be the best choice. For more color options and limited editions, see all Rangeman models.
PROS: Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, Triple Sensor, sunrise/sunset data
CONS: Large for a digital model
BEST FOR: Hiking, hunting, outdoor recreation, survival

1. G-Shock GW-M5610-1 Solar Digital Sports Watch
The original G-Shock design with modern features added
The GW-M5610-1 continues the lineage of the first ever G-Shock, the DW-5000C that launched the brand in 1983. The GW-M5610-1 has the same classic square shape as the original and is one of the best-selling G-Shock watches. It is a good choice for those who prefer a standard-size digital G-Shock over the extra-large analog-digital models. This watch also has one of the slimmest profiles (12.7 mm) of current G-Shock models and serves as an a unobtrusive timepiece for work or recreation. The GW-M5610-1 is recommended for the first-time G-Shock buyer who wants a simple, no-nonsense watch for all purposes. The GW-M5610-1 continues the tradition of Absolute Toughness and provides an extremely rugged and maintenance-free option at an affordable price.
For a more affordable but more basic option (without Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, world time, multiple alarms, and the auto-activated backlight), see the DW-5600E-1V in our basic G-Shock watches guide.
PROS: Original case design, slim profile, solar-charging and radio time-sync
CONS: May feel small on very large wrists
BEST FOR: All-purpose

Knowledgeable G-Shock fans will notice some notable omissions in our Top 15 list. This is because the list is not an “all time” list. It is mainly aimed at newer G-Shock buyers in the West and focused on the more popular and more recent models. Several of our previous top ten models like the GWN-1000 Gulfmaster and the GWF-D1000 Frogman have become more difficult to obtain in the West and are not as popular there, so they have been replaced on the list even though we still hold them in high regard.

What’s the difference between the GST-S100D-1A2 and the GST-W100D-1A2?
GST-S100D-1A2 has Tough Solar without Multi-Band 6. GST-W100D-1A2 has Tough Solar AND Multi-Band 6. GST-W100D-1A2 is an import model (if you are in the US).
I to have a gshock. Which is the best among these watches.
GW-9400 Rangeman is a good choice.
Hi,
I want to buy a G-Shock, leaning towards Rangeman, but my wrist size is small (6.5 inch) and I think this watch will look too big. Also I don’t want to compromise on features. Can you suggest best watch with max. Features for my wrist size.
Thanks
I don’t think the Rangeman is too big for a 6.5″ wrist. You might think it’s too big at first if you are used to wearing smaller watches but you might get used to the size. You should try to find a store where you can try it on and look at it in a mirror too because it might look bigger from your own point than it does from a distance. If you want a smaller G-Shock I would recommend a Tough Solar/Multi-Band 6 model like the GWM-5610, GW-6900, GW-2310, or AWG-M100. For more features like the Twin Sensor or Triple Sensor you will have to go with a larger model.
The Rangeman is an excellent choice even for those with small wrists. I wear a GX56BB and love it very much… and I have 6-inch wrists. I’m planning to get a Rangeman myself. 🙂
Hi there. Im trying to find a particular g shock. Its bright yellow and i think its the tiger print. I cant find it anywhere apart from on ruby roses wrist. Help
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a yellow tiger design. Do you have a photo?
i have a casio gshock GA110GD-9A its the best watch i have its amazing and the next i will get is the GA110GB-1A its simply beutiful, an elegant color black with gold just amazing
Which g shock is best for outdoor ?
GW-9400 Rangeman
GW-9400 Rangeman has an altimeter and barometer. I’m a diver, so if i go under water will it say the water depth ?
No, the altimeter is only for land use. The only G-Shock watches with a depth meter for underwater use are the upcoming Frogman GWF-D1000 and Gulfmaster GWN-Q1000.
G-Central: This is a GREAT site you’ve put together. Very useful in wading through the vast number of models to choose from. I think I’ve narrowed my choice dow to two, and I’d like your opinion on the difference in features, value between:
1.) GW-9400-1 Rangeman
2.) G7900-1 G-Shock Rescue
Any guidance?
Thanks! Unless budget is a serious factor I would say go with the Rangeman because it has Tough Solar/Multi-Band 6 and the Triple Sensor, and it’s not really that much more expensive. You might also consider the solar-powered GW-9700B-1 but that has a reverse LCD display (and the European model with a regular LCD display costs a lot more). If you don’t need the Triple Sensor then the G-7900 is a fine choice with good features but personally I prefer solar models.
Very helpful.
Why do you think the Triple Sensor is valuable? I have to confess that I’m not sure I understand what the feature actually is.
Also, I’m seeing the G-Shock Rescue at roughly $80, but the Rangeman is $200. Are those the prices you’re seeing? Wondering about counterfeits.
The Tripler Sensor has the following: altimeter to measure altitude (useful for hiking and trekking), barometer to measure atmospheric pressure (useful for predicting weather changes), compass to measure direction bearing, and a thermometer. These types of watches are also known as “ABC watches.” If you’re not going to use any of the sensors then you are probably better off saving your money and getting a less expensive model, although for around $200 the Rangeman is a very good deal. Yes those prices seem to be normal for online prices from third party sellers.
Hi from Manchester, England.
I found your fantastic site while researching G Shocks – it is simply a must for anyone considering getting a G Shock as the massive range of choices seems very complicated and daunting to a newbie! I read through all the super informative reviews and knew very quickly that the GWM 5610 1 was my watch as it has all I need and was rated by you guys as the overall best G Shock! I got it yesterday and am extremely happy with it to the point that I would say I love it!
All I can say is thank you SO much for putting together this fabulous site which made my choice of G Shock a very easy one! Well done and thanks again!!
Quick question. I watched the test videos in jaw-dropping anazement and my question is – are ALL G Shock watches able to withstand those piston and hammer tests or were they testing some super strength watch that costs thousands??
Thanks
I believe they can all withstand that test. Every model design is thoroughly tested for shock and water resistance.
What is the easiest to read G-Shock in bright sunlight?
They are all pretty much equal in that regard. Monochrome LCD is easy to read in sunlight unlike a backlit smartphone display.
I own G-shock squares with positive and negative displays. The negative display is much easier to read on the beach and in bright sunlight for me. If you buy a negative display G-shock for the first time, you will likely want to immediately return it; however, if you can get over your initial reaction, the watch will start to grow on you. Yes, a negative display G-shock is an acquired taste. In a recent interview in London, the G-shock inventor was seen wearing a negative display square. I find it interesting that he could have chosen any premium G-shock to wear but he chose to wear a low end negative display square.
Thanks for your brill website.
Can I ask a question please?
Which watch would you consuder for world travel- Deserts, jungle treking, rafting etc. I’m looking for a watch which will be tough enough for extreme travel. I like the look of the GW 3000b 1aer. It appears to fit the bill for most of the activities, plus I like the idea of solar power.
As it is water resistent, would you also say it is mud & sand resistant?
Thanks again
Thank you. I think any G-Shock watch is suitable for extreme travel and will be fine in the mud and sand. Personally I always buy solar models. Officially the current mud-resistant models are the G-9000 and GW-9010 Mudman, G-9300 and GW-9300 Mudman, GW-9400 Rangeman, GWG-1000 Mudmaster, GG-1000 Mudmaster, as well as the GX-56 and GXW-56. All of these are digital-only except for the Mudmaster models. I think any G-Shock will be okay if exposed to mud though some may require more thorough cleaning than others if there is extreme/constant exposure.
Thanks for your reply. I think I will go with the GW 3000b 1aer as I like the look ,but was worried about sand dust etc.
Once again thanks for your website.
Is GD 400MB-1D is the great choice? Grab one last night 🙂
Yes, very tough watch
Does the mudmaster Gwg 1000 1A3 comes with a carbon fiber band? And wich one is better between the gravitymaster GPW 1000 1A and the mudmaster Gwg 1000 1a3?
Thanks.
P.S great website!
No, the GWG-1000 does not have a carbon fiber insert band. It really depends which features you want and which look you prefer, keep in mind the GPW-1000 is fully analog.
I am a beginner, which will be the best g shock for me, i really wanna grab one mudmaster GWG 1000RD 4AJF rescue red, I love its looks n features, I am an industrial Health and Safety consultant let me know about the positive and negative aspects of this watch as well as your advice.
That would be a great choice, keep in mind it is a larger watch. Positives are that it looks great with large analog-digital display, has Triple Sensor and Tough Solar/Multi-Band 6. Negative is that it is one of the more expensive Triple Sensor G-Shock watches.
Thank you for publishing a great article. I have the Gulfmaster and I had planned to use it as a dive watch because of the built in compass. Reading Gshock forums and my manual as a guide, it appears I am diving with tanks at my own risk and I cannot operate the buttons underwater (like to activate the compass).
I have read that the recessed buttons cannot be pressed but, you can press the protruding buttons on the Frogman. I’m wondering if you knew, before I ruin a watch, if the Gulfmaster’s triple sensor, the protruding ‘A’ button can be pressed underwater, which means it would have multiple o-rings or a completely sealed housing (but that’s Frogman territory). Thanks for the Review and Guidance!
You will often hear conflicting information about pressing the buttons underwater. Personally I think it is okay to do it as long as the seals are in good shape. On a newer watch it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s possible that using the buttons underwater all the time could lead to the seals failing earlier, though it’s uncertain when that would be. If you want to be safe you may want to go with the new Frogman GWF-D1000 or Gulfmaster GWN-Q1000 which both have the compass sensor and now also a depth meter and are designed to be used underwater.
Great site! Thanks for all your hard work. I have an old Casio Silver Wave Ceptor watch WV300DA-7A. One of the things I love about it is the large size of the time display numbers. Do any of the G-Shock watches have similar size time display numbers?
Reference: http://www.casio.com/products/archive/Watches/wave_ceptor/WV300DA-7A/
Thank you! The GWM500 series (amazon) and MTG900DA-8V (amazon) have larger numbers than other G-Shock watches. For larger than that you might want to consider a Casio Pro Trek watch. Some other G-Shocks that have larger numbers than usual are the GD-350 (amazon), GD-400 (amazon), and GLS-8900 (amazon)
I’ve decided to get the GWM5610-1 as my first G-Shock based on it being the thinnest G-Shock model I can find at 12.7mm. It also has most of the features I am looking for and costs less than $100. Thanks again.
P.S. Are there any other thin G-Shocks?
Nice choice! There aren’t really any other thin G-Shocks outside of the 5600 family. There was the G-056 (eBay) a while ago which was only 11 mm thick and the thinnest G-Shock ever (and also the GW-056). There are some G-056 watches on eBay but it will cost a lot more now.
Do all of g shock watches have auto light feature? Thanks
Most do, but the cheapest G-Shocks don’t. There is also “Full Auto” on some models which means it only activates in the dark when you turn your wrist.
hi I really am getting into the g shock frenzy what with you suggest to a first time buyer,is the cheapest ones worth it ?I prefer digital ,I am from south Africa so might not have access to a vast range
I would suggest a Tough Solar model. The cheapest ones are okay but they don’t have all the features like world time, multiple alarms, and auto light.
Hi. I search to buy my first g-shock and i find out your site. Site is fantastic, all informations can be found there!
My question is next: which one: GA100CF-8A or G9300-1?
I first preffer GA100, but G9300 is also ok. I love it becase of compas and temperature measure, but i’m sceptical about Tough Solar and battery with 8 months. Can i charge it with clasic wear. Does anyone has problems with battery, what are experiences with Tough Soloar. I read all coments there and i see that you preffer Tough Solar and my question is it is so good and reliable?
Thank you. Yes, I think Tough Solar is reliable. I have some solar G-Shocks that are almost 10 years old (GW-M5600, GW-225) and a GW-9000 which is 10 years old and they are still working fine with the original rechargeable batteries. They usually stay charged to the maximum without having to leave it in the sun or under bright light, at least for the all-digital models. Even indoor lighting will charge it. If you’re not going to wear it just leave it by a window and it should be okay. But I would say go with your first choice and then get your second choice later.
Thank you for replay!
I understand everything but last sentence. What you want to say, its better for me to buy GA100? Why? Or i do not understand
What I was trying to say is: It’s up to you. I think if you don’t go with your first choice you may regret it, not because the GA100 is better, but because you should get the one you really want.
tell me MORE about GD120N ? IS IT GOOD ? IWANT TO BUY.THANKS
Good choice if you want a large digital watch. It has very good battery life (~7 years).
helloooo there,
im really shocked for all the information & advises you have. it is really great seeing you replying to all these people without any complaint. i don’t know how to saaly Thank you. “speechless”
i have a question for you. i have small wrist, what do you think of buying AWG-M100. do you think it’s suitable for small wrist and does it have the basis features?
once again Thank you very much for the great efforts.
Thank you! Yes the AWG-M100 is one of the few G-Shocks these days that is a standard size and not very large, so it would be good for smaller wrists. It has more than basic features with Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, world time, multiple alarms, stopwatch, timer, and full auto LED light. It’s the best choice for a smaller analog-digital G-Shock.
That is really big help. im going for it. Thanks alot.
Good morning. Great site for a very confusing topic. Need some help. I’m a big guy and want a big gshock with tough solar, atomic clock/ radio, triple sensor best for outdoor conditions. Suggestions?
Rangeman GW-9400 ((amazon), Gulfmaster GWN-1000 (Amazon) or Mudmaster GWG-1000 (amazon). The Mudmaster is largest of the three.
Useful site thanks. Off the back of this im getting a gwg-1000-1a Mudmaster. A very cool looking beefy watch.
Nice choice, I was just trying it on at the store and it’s definitely one of the best looking G-Shocks.
I’m coming from Indonesia. This site helped me a lot to understand the G Shock, thank you for the great work.
Short questions, what’s your opinion between rangeman and protrek 6100. Which one have a more accurate ABC sensor? Which tougher?
Thank you for visiting. They both have the Triple Sensor Version 3, so the sensor performance should be equal. The Rangeman is tougher, and water-resistant to 200 meters versus 100 meters for the PRW-6100. If you want a very tough watch with the Triple Sensor I would go with the Rangeman, Gulfmaster GWN-1000, or Mudmaster GWG-1000.
I’m in sales marketing, I would like to own a G-Shock allow me to dress formal and casual looks, very confusing choice, I’m looking for price below USD$200.
I would suggest something from the G-STEEL line.
am i making a bad decisions buying GA120-1A?
No not a bad decision. GA-120 has estimated battery life of 3 years versus 2 years for the GA-110.
To the guy who was talking about the DW-5030 models. Sorry, I had to do a database restore and lost your comment!
I just wanted to thank you for putting together a fantastic site!! You’ve done an outstanding job. I have been buying g-shocks for many years and own a huge variety, from the DW-5600E all the way up to the MRG-G1000. I enjoy reading the articles here and looking to see what new g-shocks are coming down the pike. Thank you!
I’m looking for a G-shock watch that has the look of the Rangeman but doesn’t have the triple sensor, as I don’t need a barometer, altimeter, and thermometer. what options do I have? I would need tough solar and multi band 6
The Rangeman is very unique and there aren’t really any other models that look like it.
I want a watch for swimming that is not too big since I have a small wrist.
The GW-M5610 (amazon) and DW-5600 (amazon) are slim and small.
Hey, you guys have a very impressive website i must say. I need to gift to G shock to a friend. He is in forces and m unable to decide which one to go for as this is totally not my field.. what features should i go for?
GW-6900-1 (amazon) is a good choice for military use. The Tough Solar power system is a convenient feature so he doesn’t have to worry about replacing the battery often. Also you can see our Best G-Shock Watches for Military.
Hey guys which g-shock watch has the most features and a good design, alternatively the best in these two specifications.
Rangeman GW-9400 and Mudmaster GWG-1000
Is G 110-1A a good choice I got one yesterday
Yes GA-110-1A is good!
Wat the main different btw mug n rangeman? I’m looking for a heavy outdoor activities watch
Mudman vs Rangeman? Mudman G-9300 has a compass and thermometer and Rangeman GW-9400 has an altimeter, barometer, compass, and thermometer. Rangeman also has sunrise and sunset data. They both have Tough Solar power but Rangeman also has Multi-Band 6 time syncing. Also the Rangeman has a metal strap keeper. (Mudmaster GW-9300, not G-9300, also has Multi-Band 6 and carbon fiber strap keeper but that is a Japan-only model). Rangeman is an excellent choice for an outdoor watch and has a lot more features than the Mudman G-9300.
Which is more suitable for a female?
G-Shock S Series and Baby-G watches are smaller and made for women.
I love your indebt analysis, I was stuck on choices. I’m from Nigeria in subtropical area in West Africa. I’m a Surveyor I live upland but travel by sea, I work in difficult and rough terrains, swamps and creeks. I need a quality and rough time piece with state of the art features. I’m stuck with the choice of Casio GWN Q1000-1A and GPW 1000-B. I love the offering of the sea features but missing the GPS feature on the Gravity master, please help.
Yeah, that is a difficult choice. It depends on which features you would use the most.
Hey great site, really helpful to slot the different G’s into categories. I’ve had a (large) number of G’s in my time, ranging from the Frogman, Rangeman, Mudman, Gravitymaster and now currently Mudmaster (all tough solar) .. am thinking of going back to the good ol’ Frogman. I’m not a collector however love a good watch. Have owned Omega’s, Tissots and Longines and far prefer Casio’s G Shock for appearance and functionality. I called it over a year ago that G Shock should bring out another Frogman and everyone thought I was crazy. And now they have. I don’t quite understand why such a great watch (Frogman) which is Titanium, carbon fibre and has sooooo many functions and such a great name, why it isn’t being sold in all G Shock stockists in Australia. I will be forced to either pay a premium and order in, or go online. It cant be the price, stockists seem happy enough to stock the MTG models etc. Regarding the new Frogman, what are the main differences between the new depth sensor model, and the old school model?
The new Frogman GWF-D1000 has the same features as the previous GWF-1000 model (Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, tide/moon, stainless steel interior case), plus depth meter, compass, thermometer, sapphire crystal, and carbon fiber insert band. Also it is a little larger. The size/weight is 59.2 × 53.3 × 18mm and 141g compared to 58.3 x 52.8 x 18mm and 115g.
Thanks for that. The GWF-D1000 is damn expensive here in AUS (if you can get it). Around $1700. Still pondering on whether I get it, or get my other preference, a GW7900B-1 which is not a bad package for the price! The new Frogman is probably worth the price considering its features although for a non-analog G with the only differences being the materials, depth sensor, compass and thermo it is hard to justify. Around $1000 would be more on the mark. What is your opinion on the GW7900B-1 with the negative display? My only concern is that due to its age/release date the sensors/technology will not be up to scratch compared to the same sensors/tech being released today.
Yeah there seemed to be a very limited supply of GWF-D1000 watches in America as well. It’s not available on ShopCasio.com or Macys.com anymore, and we’re not seeing any discounted prices from third-party sellers. I think the GW7900B-1 is one of the best looking G-Shocks, but I recently bought a DW-5600BB-1 that has a reverse LCD display like the GW7900B-1 and I find it very difficult to read in low light. A lot of people have the same complaint about the reverse LCD displays on G-Shocks. There is also the GW-7900-1ER (amazon) which has a standard LCD display but for some reason it never got a U.S. release so it is more expensive to obtain. I think the Tough Solar and Multi-Band timekeeping features will always be useful. I am still wearing a GWM5600A-3 from ten years ago and haven’t had to change the battery yet.
Thanks for that. Yes the reverse display can suck, had the olive/green Rangeman and had the same problem. The GW7900B-1 with reverse display looks super cool, all black.. very tactical. Keep up the good work re the site.
I have a GA-1000 with the gray band. I’m very happy with it. Would it be practical to get the yellow and red bands and swap them out occasionally ? Are the bands available and what tool would I use. Thank You
Hi,
Which G-shock would be best for a ten-year old boy. He wants a g-shock, but some we have tried are too big. He would like one with a world clock, analog face, alarms, stop watch and countdown features.
A GMA-S110 from the S Series matches those requirements. It is about 30% smaller than a full-size G-Shock GA-110. A lot of the S Series watches have more feminine colors but the dark gray GMA-S110CM-8A would be a good choice for boy.
Thanks for the information and I went through your website yesterday and really liked it your website. I might even purchase a G-shock for myself.
I was wondering if you could recommend one other watch for my son that might be between the size of the dark gray GMA-S110CM-8A and a full size G-shock. Thank you.
Thank you, everyone should own at least one G-Shock! For analog models the G-100 and AWG-M100 are not as big as watches like the GA-100. I would suggest the AWG-M100B-1A (amazon) or AWG-M100A-1A (amazon). For digital the DW-5600 and GW-M5610 are the smallest models. Also DW-5600 and GW-5600 are not the extra-large size.
I just got a G Shock king of G watch and I am worried because it looks like were not having sunlight for a couple of days here in the Philippines.
How long before my watch will turn off? Is there a battery in it too and should I stop worrying about not being able to get it bathed in sunlight?
Thank you in advance!
Don’t worry about it. The rechargeable battery can go 11 months on a full charge with no sunlight. A few days isn’t going to be a problem. Just try to keep it charged fully when you can. It can charge from indoor lights too.
Please guys suggest me, which is the best
G-1000-1ADR
G-1000-4ACR
G-1000-2BDR
G-1000-9GDR
Waiting for your kind reply
I shall be very thankful to you.
They are all the same, just pick the color you like!
Any G-Shock that is Tough Solar, Multi Band 6 and also have vibrating alarm?
What’s difference btw GW-9400-3, GW-9400-3CR, GW-9400-3D and GW-9400-3DR???
They are the same. The CR and DR codes just mean that they are meant for export outside of Japan.
Hi. Which model do you think is the best for hiking, that isn’t too bulky. The one that is recommended here is quite big. Is there a smaller alternative which includes the thermometer and altimeter features too?
See the Pro Trek PRG-300 or PRW-3000
Which g shock is best looking? Give me your opinion… I am big guy
For a big guy I think the GWG-1000 Mudmaster is the best looking. A G-STEEL model would be a good choice too if you want a more refined look.
hi, i have been looking through various sites over the last 3 days until i came across ur article, i had a Casio Illuminator series for almost 13 years before it gave me problems. I am basically looking at a big, rugged, water and shock proof solar powered watch that’s digital. I would like one that offers a pedometer, can u suggest the best choice for me? The pedometer is an extra but i would like to have it. I like the Frogman but it may be out of my budget.
I would recommend the Rangeman GW-9400 or Mudman G-9300. There is no G-Shock with a pedometer but you can look into waterproof smartwatches at ToughGadget.com.
How about the Mudman G- 9300-1? That seems to be the best price i can get in the models u suggested. Btw, thanks so much for ur help, its straight to the point and i can’t say how much it’s helping. When u wear a watch for 10 years or more, it’s like a part of u and i want to be totally comfortable with my choice.
Yes for a large solar G-Shock that is a good choice and a lot more affordable than the Rangeman. Most of the Tough Solar models around $100 or less are the smaller models. Other large and affordable solar models are the GW7900B-1 (amazon) and GR8900A-1 (amazon) but I would suggest going with a positive LCD display like the G9300-1 as it is easier to read.
which one would be the best for my daughter? She is in the Army it will need to be black and not real hugh
I would suggest #1, the GWM5610-1. It is one of the smaller G-Shocks.
Finnaly, a good complete comprehensive and honest place to land. Glad to read your tought to other. Would you help me to decide..
Which one would be more affordable between gw9400, gr9110 and gw7900 for sea, land and swamp activities?
I had the rangeman on my wrist but rather worry for the rust of sea. Do i need to worry and get one of two others above? Or i can just go with the rangeman without any worry?
And how about the tidegraph from the two, would it make a sense and handy for real situation?
Sorry for a lot question… thnks for your time
Thank you! I’ve never had a problem with my G-Shock watches rusting from saltwater, but I was fishing and diving once or twice a week so it wasn’t constant exposure. The G-Shock Gulfman G9100 (amazon) uses titanium parts and is officially rust-resistant (it says “Rust Resist” on the band), and it has a tide graph. I think the tide graph can be useful but it gives limited information and does not predict the actual heights like a more comprehensive tide chart would.
So, i think i shouldnt be worry again for the rangeman into saltwater although it is not titanium. Beside, it’s mud ressist would be good for the swamp..
So then just think about the tidegraph (with the limitation) and titanium, if it would be worth to make my day worry free then would pick the gulfman.
Thnks for the thought.
Regards,
Dex.
You have build a great site for G-Shock lovers .
I am planning to buy my first G-Shock. I am confused between these three models
GA700- 1B
GA100 -1A1
GA110-1BDR
I want good features plus great looks. Please help me between these three?
They all have similar features. The GA700 is larger than the others, has a front light button, and a longer estimated battery life. I would suggest picking the one you like the look of the most.
Hi found this website and love it. Thanks for the good compilation. I have ordered AWG-M100 as my first G shock and also agree with you on the solar part as I don’t like to change battery or impact the WR or the seal if the back cover is open.
One question. I don’t see many different straps or band for g shock. Is it hard to change due to the proprietary size/shape/screw? Can I put a nato strap?
Thanks!
Thanks, you would need to get a strap adapter to use a nato strap but I’m not sure where to get one for that model. The most common strap adapters are for the 5600 series, DW/GW-6900, and Rangeman, but those are digital models. There are also strap adapters for the GD/GA-1XX watches but none of those are solar. If you are worried about the seal you can do a pressure test at a watch store after changing the battery. Unless it is reassembled improperly or the o-ring is worn out it should be okay.
First of all I would like to thank you for putting all this useful information together answering everybody one by one(which helps people to get the valuable information without losing their valuable time)
My question is;I am going to buy a GWN-1000 since I want a positive display for sure I narrowed my choices to GWN-1000-2ADR and GWN-1000F-2A the problem lays here;is the blue band of GWN-1000-2ADR too flashy? or the golden rim of GWN-1000F-2A more flashy?
(I am 36 years old male-if it helps) I hope I explain it right.
I think the gold bezel on the GWN-1000F-2A makes it flashier than the GWN-1000-2A. The GWN-1000-2A is a lighter shade of blue but I wouldn’t consider it flashy (but any non-traditional watch color will draw attention). Also the finish on the GWN-1000F-2A body and bands is glossy. I was considering the GWN-1000-2A too but I ended up buying the GWN-1000C-1A since I don’t use the LCD display that much.
Super fast response, thank you for helping me for not to make the wrong choice,I missed the glossy band detail so obviously GWN-1000-2A is the way to go for me,you have a great knowledge, will be following and recommending the page, have a good day.
i’m not sure of the term positive display and reverse display, what does it mean exactly?
which watch has a positive display of the two that i am considering buying the GG1000 1 A or the GW9400 rangeman ?
originally i wanted to purchase the GWG 1000 but the band with that metal metal strap keeper makes the fit not right on my wrist vs the GG 1000 fits much better.
thank you for all your great insight .
Michel
A positive LCD display has black digits. A reverse LCD display has a black background and light digits. Sometimes a reverse LCD display can be harder to read at an angle or in low light. There are GG-1000 and GW-9400 models with both types of displays, it depends on the specific model.
Hi! which watch would you recommend for a female in corrections? I will be inside all day so will the solar be reliable? Also need one with a pretty bright back light and be able to wash it with soap. Seems like all the rugged fancy/classy ones are for men only. Could a female get away with wearing some of the men’s styles or would it look silly?
Solar should be okay indoors, especially if it’s an all-digital model. The watch can be charged from indoor fluorescent lights. The higher-end analog models might need more light to stay fully charged. I would recommend the GW-6900 or the GW-M5610. They are both solar-powered, have a bright EL backlight, and excellent water resistance. They are a normal size and not extra-large so they are good for females. A lot of women wear men’s G-Shock watches, even the larger models.
Excellent article, thanks for taking the time to put it together.
Do you know if any G-Shocks can display the date in UK format (ie DD/MM) rather than US (MM/DD). I was sure some of them used to do this, but I can’t see any now that do.
I don’t think any current G-Shock models can do this.
Oh, right, thanks
Great website! However, it’s almost impossible for me to make a right choice, so I could use some advice. I’m looking for a watch with solar and analog compass. I like the GWN1000 Gulfmaster, but I’m not much of a sea type, so don’t need tide information etc. Are there any other watches to look for?
In the same price range consider the Pro Trek PRG-600, for a little more the G-Shock GWA-1100 from the Gravitymaster aviation line.
Thank you for the time and effort you’ve put into this. It’s both helpful and reassuring in making decisions on which G-SHOCK to buy.
I am curious whether there are any differences between models designated for specific regions. For example, would a CR or DR model display the date differently than those designated for Europe (4-19 vs 19-4)? And besides cost of shipping, are there any tangible reasons why JF models fetch higher asking prices?
Really excited to buy my first G-SHOCK in 30 years. Was given a solar DW-5000 style by my cousin when I was a kid, Velcro straps and all. That thing was truly a tank of a timepiece!
There isn’t any difference between CR, DR, and EU models. Those codes are just used to designate the intended market and besides that the watches are the same. In the case of JF models being more expensive than their export counterparts (assuming we are not talking about Japan-exclusive models), it could be a combination of several factors, shipping being one of them. The pricing for certain models may just be set differently depending on the country/market (and not all based on a single currency) and exchange rates may play a role too. Hope you enjoy your new G-Shock!
Hi do you think is it worth to have MRG model? Considering its price, it is very close to a up scale watch price or even more expensive like Tag Heuer etc. what is your take?
Thanks.
Yes I think it is worth it because it is made in Japan at Casio’s special Yamagata factory and it is a very nice watch, but I think it also depends on the buyer’s financial situation. Personally I don’t buy very expensive watches, but if I did I would buy it. 🙂
Great site! Thank you for all your efforts.
I’ve been looking for some time for a version measuring low temperature, and came across the limit of -10 degrees celcius…. are there any watches capable to overcome the limit?
No I think that is the limit for all G-Shocks with thermometer sensor.
Excellent site, very informative.
What model would you recommend for caving? I work at an underground river/cenote place guiding people and we need a water resistant watch.
Sounds like you would want something that has good visibility in the dark. I recommend a model with the “EL Backlight” and one that has an auto or full auto EL backlight so that you can activate the backlight by turning your wrist instead of having to press a button. I would suggest GW6900 and from the top 10 list: GWM5610, G9300 Mudman, and GW9400 Rangeman. Mudman and Rangeman would be good because they also have a digital compass.
Thanks for your complete guide to G-Shock watches family.
Looks like I’m interest with new model mentioned in this page, in #19, G-STEEL GSTB100-1A Large Tough Solar Analog Watch with Bluetooth. I like all features on it.
But I have small wrist, around 5″ (around 17.5cm).
Is it OK to wear and use this G-STEEL GSTB100-1A on daily basis as my primary watch? Is it not too big to see by other people?
Need your advise and suggestion.
Hmm, I can’t really answer that, that’s up to you. It is the style these days to wear big watches but with a 5″ wrist it might feel too big. You might want to look into the G-STEEL GST-S310-1A which is smaller and looks similar, but it does not have Bluetooth or Multi-Band 6.
Thanks G-Central for your suggestion. I like G-STEEL GSTB100-1A because it has automatic dual time zone functionality and I need to use it in my daily basis, between two countries time zone, my home country and my residence country. Let me see the features in G-STEEL GST-S310-1A. Really appreciate your effort and time to answer my questions in timely manner.
Hopefully you don’t mind if I have other questions in the future. 🙂
Apologize. I’m not used to use the inch measure. 🙂
After I check again, my wrist around 5.5″, not 5″.
Thanks.
Yes, the GSTB100-1A has much better features. Hmm, well my wrist is 6.5″ and the original G-STEEL fits okay (I don’t have one but tried it on at the store). I think it will probably fit but what’s most important is if you are comfortable wearing a big watch.
Hi,
Can you please give me a recomendation regarding a functionable watch i can use. I need something that that has mutiple alarms that will alarm everyday, a timer for my work related stuffs and a long battery life as i don’t really have much time in going out due to my work load and schedules. I’ll be buying online with it as well with the budget of 50-100$. It would be preferable if it’s cheaper with all that features. No need to be really be, just a medium size for casual wear or smart casual.
Thanks in advance.
Regards
In that price range I would recommend the GWM5610 (#1 pick), G9300-1 Mudman (#10) or analog-digital AWGM100B-1A (#9). All have Tough Solar power. The AWGM100B-1A might be more appropriate for you looks-wise but the countdown timer has a limit of 100 minutes (versus 24 hours for the GWM5610 and G9300).
Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I really appreciated it. I am checking on AWGM100B-1A, this looks gorgeous and being solar is actually a good thing. I also stumble while searching the g2900, its cheap and has all the function i need, and i am actually curious regarding its 10yr battery. But i am also having second thoughts because i don’t know the model release year and how long its battery remains if i bought it. Can you maybe give any insights regarding this watch and also can you also recomend something from 150-170$.
Thanks
Usually the battery on a digital G-Shock will last a lot longer than the estimate if you don’t use the light and functions, not sure about that model though as the estimate is already very long. The G2900 is a current model so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I don’t think there is really anything else to consider in the price range you mentioned, next level would be the Rangeman around $200.
Hi g central…. please forgive me for asking this silly question but i ve tried searching a specific replacement band everywhere but to no avail. I ve got an old functioning g shock g350c that was given by my late mother. I ve used it before and now i ve passed it to my son. Is there any latest g shock replacement band that can fit G350c which can be found in malaysia? Thanx so much.
Hmm sorry I’m not sure if the bands from any other models would be compatible with the G350C.
Hi i’m thinking of buying the g5600e-1, it’s small and light which looks actually good. The problem is that it’s a tough solar, i’m not sure how long the battery will last and if it can be changed (compatible rechargeable battery). I just ned the time and the feeling i have a wrist watch everyday, it feels complete.
My work schedule is 6 am to 6 pm, 7 days a week, so i barely see the sun (depending on the moth) and only if i go for a break for about a minute. I was wondering if this will still or still get charged in the office light, the flourecent light or if i go for a break outside (working in Saudi, it’s pretty hot, especially sunny here)which takes 3-5 mins. I’ll be wearing it everyday just like the old watches i have.
I’ve never had a real watch, something good and which i’ll care, so this will be my very first one and g shock. I wonder if it’s worth for the price as i need a long life watch. I’m willing to change battery as long as it’s rechargeable as well.
Thanks
A fully digital G-Shock like the G5600E-1 should be able to keep charged sufficiently under office lights and a bit of outdoor light. If the watch isn’t fully charged when you receive it, it may need more direct sunlight to get a full charge. The digital G-Shock watches do not use much power (unless it is a sensor model and you use the sensors a lot). As long as you see the charge level remaining at “High” you don’t have to worry about it. The manual says that 8 hours of indoor fluorescent lighting (500 lux) is required each day for normal daily operations. That will not fully charge the watch from a lower level, but assuming the watch is already fully charged it should be okay, especially if it gets some outdoor light too. If the charge level drops to “Medium,” putting it close to a desk light or next to a window for a while will help. I suggest making sure that Power Save mode is activated. It is possible to change the battery as long as it is the same rechargeable type. I wear a GWM5600A-3 that is over 8 years old and I haven’t had to change the battery yet, and I don’t make any conscious effort to keep the watch charged or spend much time outdoors (though it does get indirect sunlight).
Hi,
I’m looking for a black and gold watch.
What do you think about GSTS100G-1A, GSTS300G-1A9 and GA1100-9G?
Contemplating between these 3. However, I read that GA1100-9G features are more useful for aviation experts, so I think I should not be picking this for someone who may not be using those features.
As for GSTS100G-1A and GSTS300G-1A9, what are their differences? I see that they are of different shades of gold, specifications wise I am not able to see much differences. Are they both worth the money? And which would you pick if you had to? Or would you happen to have other suggestions for a black and gold watch?
Thanks in advance.
Yes GA1100-9G has the Twin Sensor with compass and thermometer. Personally I would prefer a G-STEEL model as I would want Tough Solar power on an analog G-Shock. I think the GSTS100G-1A and GSTS300G-1A9 might be the same shade of gold. The GSTS300G-1A9 is a smaller model. You can see both of them in this video. I think the Mudmaster GWG-1000GB-1A is one of the best black and gold G-Shocks but is harder to find now.
Hello,
My son is a new Marine and I want to give him a watch that he can use where ever he is, doing whatever he will be doing. which would be the best all around watch?
your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I would suggest #10 the G9300-1 Mudman. It is solar-powered with world time and a compass sensor.
Hello,
I am interest to buy casio g-shock watch for my trekking purpose. Which one would be best, further it should be slim and not to bulky as my wrist is small/thin.
Mudman G-9300 or Rangeman GW-9400 since both have a compass sensor. The G-9300 might be better if you don’t want a large watch, but the GW-9400 is not that large.
i prefer model like GW-5000-1JF. So, could u suggest me like this model for trekking purpose.
You can use any G-Shock you want for trekking.
Hi i juat wanted to khow if the g9300 is like the size if the gd100. Other question. I have a gd350 with i really like but im curios if casio is planning to do it solar? Thank you.
GD-100 is 55 x 51.2 x 17.4 mm and the G-9300 is 53 x 50.8 x 18.2 mm. I don’t think there will be a solar GD-350.
Hello I am looking for my first G-Shock and not wanting a large model on my small wrist I am leaning towards the GWM5610-1 because I want solar and atomic time keeping. However, I am also
spying the GW-M5610PC-1JF because it’s from japan and seems like it’s not a common model. Is the band more comfortable? Would the Japanese import possibly go up in value? Are there any 5600 series solar atomic watches that may go up in value? I would be willing to spend the extra money fro a possible investment, otherwise I’d probably just go with the GWM5610-1.
Yes, they don’t make the GW-M5610PC-1JF anymore so it should go up in value, but it’s not guaranteed that you will get more than you paid for it if you’re selling it in used condition. Yes the band on the GW-M5610PC-1JF is a little wider than the standard GWM5610-1. I have the same size band on my GW-M5600A-3 and I prefer it to the standard band. I wouldn’t buy a G-Shock expecting it to go up in value (unless you are collecting and not wearing it), but it is fun to own G-Shocks that are rare and not commonly seen.
hello, I’m a user of GShock G 6900 1dr a tough solar watch. But I have a doubt if it withstand in a cold weather condition since it needs primarily the power of direct sunlight. And if it gets the power of a fluorescent lamp in a prolong cold weather condition. Would it be adequate enough to support the watch for week or two?
The instructions for this model cover how much light you need to keep it charged. http://support.casio.com/en/manual/manualsearch.php?cid=009&MODULE=3180&_ga=2.93953245.1519278180.1526256107-308979060.1478564437
Hi,
I am considering purchasing either the gw-9400 rangeman or the new gprb-1000. I am not sure the new hangman is worth the extra cost and it is also very large so am concerned about wearability. I like to know your thoughts?
Thanks
Yes, the GPR-B1000 Rangeman is very large. If you are concerned about that and are not planning to use the GPS feature a lot I would recommend the GW-9400.
I miss the G Shock Rangeman GPR-B1000! I would have thought that this great outdoorwatch was number 1……Why is this watch not in the list? In my opinion it is the best G Shock so far!!!
Watch Geek, I’m looking to gift myself a G-Shock for the holidays this year, looking for the best all digital for under $100. After watching your excellent GW-6900 module review video, it appears this watch/module might be the best digital in my price range. Would you agree, or offer any other suggestions? Like you, I want pure functionality, and all items on the watch face should have some purpose. Thoughts? Thanks for all the effort you put into this site and your videos – they are truly the best!
Thank you, but G-Central and Watch Geek are not run by the same person. GW-6900 is an excellent choice. For Tough Solar/Multi-Band 6 under $100 I would say that one and the GW-M5610 are the best with the GW-M5610 being the smallest and slimmest option. There are more models in that price range listed on our Black Friday page. Another one I would consider is the GW-7900-1 (also on that page) which has the advantage of having larger buttons and the tide/moon graph.
Hello , need mid size solar with tide function maybe some color using it for surfing. Doesn’t have be solar ,but would like some color (red)
The GAX-100 are large size but they are not that large compared to some other large G-Shock models.

Hello, please help me,
I can’t make the final decision which to purchase G-Shock GWG-1000 or G-Shock GW-9400,
I like g-shock mudmaster design and simplicity but it amounts two fold expensive. I think G-Shock GW-9400 has more features with sunset/rise tracking and cold resistance and et cetera.
1. Is these two watches equal in batteries quality (same quality in solar technology).
2. Please define what supremacy has GWG-1000 over G-Shock GW-9400 except for design and vibration resistance?
3. Will G-Shock GW-9400 be damaged if I wear it while ride motorcycle (chopper)?
1. They are about the same but the GWG-1000 will use up the battery at a slightly faster rate (for timekeeping). This shouldn’t be an issue if you keep the watch fully charged. How often you use the sensors and certain features will also affect the battery life. Features that move the hands such as the compass and hand shift feature may also use up more battery than the GW-9400 would.
2. GWG-1000 has a sapphire crystal and GW-9400 has mineral glass. Also the electronic crown on the GWG-1000 can be considered an advantage as it makes adjusting the settings a little easier and quicker. (Something else to consider is that the countdown timer on the GWG-1000 is limited to 60 minutes but is 24 hours for the GW-9400.)
3. It should be okay assuming nothing hits it but there are no guarantees. It should fare better than other brands at least.
I liked this list. There was no surprises and i agree most on the list.
I owned a lot of Gshocks but at the moment i only have tour number 1. GW-M5610-1. Good bang for the buck and a good size for me.
I´ll see what they next will be, i had a Gulfmaster for the alti-/barometer function, but it was just to big.
Pretty sure you can adjust the settings on the G-Steel GST-B100 without a smartphone – it definitely makes it simpler to pair with the app and select time zones and alarms there, but the crown on the side (which is otherwise completely redundant) does allow you to adjust at least some of the settings manually.
Is the CASIO G-SHOCK 「G’MIX」 GBA-400-1AJF a good one
Sure, or you could go with a GA-400 if you don’t need the Bluetooth and music features.
What is the best of mudmaster GWG 1000 or new model. Answer please which model you advise for me.
GWG-1000 is still considered the top Mudmaster, but the GG-B100 has several features that the GWG-1000 doesn’t such as Bluetooth mobile link, step counter, location indicator, and carbon fiber bezel. GG-B100 does not have Tough Solar power or Multi-Band 6 radio wave timekeeping like the GWG-1000. Which one is best for you depends on which features you will be using the most. If you are going to use the sensors a lot then I would suggest the GWG-1000 because it is solar-powered.
What is the best model GA-100 or GA-135dd ?what is the differences
The GA-135DD is a 35th Anniversary model with four real diamonds on the index and a special case back.
Nice review, but actually g-shock GA 800 1a has little defect / bugs 🙁 . You can search what defect i mean on youtube. Maybe is there any way to fix the defect ?
Because even it not high-end g shock, it shouldn’t has defect plus GA 800 1a has awesome design…
Thanks, yeah apparently the stopwatch memory doesn’t display the correct times if the watch is in 12 hour mode, confirmed by three people, one of whom bought two watches with both having the same problem. Using 24 hour mode solves the problem but I realize that might not be acceptable for some people.
The rangeman, are they made in japan or made in thailand?
Thailand, according to the case back in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8qLvCTe3_c
Is there a Japanese (JDM) model for GWG 1000 1A3?
Yes, GWG-1000-1A3JF
Hi, great article! I’m about to get my first G-shock (recommended by a friend) and both this and your guide to beginners were quite helpful. Still I am yet to decide which model (amazon reviews don’t help much as it goes from 0 to 100 from person to person).
My current choices are between the GA-110MB-1AER and the GBA-800-1AER,
or
the AWG-M100B-1AER and the GAW-100B-1AER,
I am quite inclined for a solar powered model and I wonder if the fact the there’s a big gap between release years makes it a factor in the decision in either case?
Also, besides how it looks, doesn’t seem that there is a big difference between the models, or are there major differences to take in account?
Thank you very much and keep up the great work!
Thanks for visiting. Battery life could be an issue on older, non-solar models, but the batteries usually last longer than the estimated battery life listed in the specs.
The AWG-M100B-1A and GBA-800-1A are considered “mid-size” models that are more like the smaller G-Shock watches from the 1980s-2000s. The GA-110MB-1A is more of a large size (although it doesn’t really seem that large now in 2019) and the GAW-100B-1A is the largest model of the four and I would consider it an extra-large size.
A lot of people complain about not being able to read the LCD displays on the AWG-M100 because they are negative displays and they are small. This is potentially an issue on all the models you are considering. If you plan to use the LCD displays regularly you might want to consider something with a positive LCD display (with black digits), or an all-digital model, but you seem to be set on an analog-digital watch. If you are mostly planning to use the watch just to tell the time, then it might not be an issue for you.
I always recommend solar when possible, especially for analog G-Shocks. You might also want to consider a GA-700 or GA-710, which has a longer battery life than other non-solar analog G-Shocks.
My grandson just joined the Navy. I am looking for gshock watch for him. I would like to get solar. I am looking at GWB5600BL-1, GA100BL-1A, GAS100G-1A. Which has the most features he would need? I have never had a gshock watch before.
