The 20 Best Casio G-Shock Watches by G-Central

Updated for Spring/Summer 2024

Best Casio G-Shock Watches for 2023

Quick Jump: 20 Best G-Shock Watches

The G-Central Top 20 is a list of the overall best G-Shock watches for 2024. Our criteria for ranking include features, style, value, and popularity. This list is ever-evolving and regularly updated to include some of the most recent G-Shock releases. We’ve included a wide variety of G-Shock models to help you find the best watch for your needs.

Why Should You Buy A G-Shock? Casio G-Shock watches are widely regarded as the toughest watches in the world, and every G-Shock model is designed to take an extreme amount of abuse that would render most other watches broken and useless. The raised bezels of G-Shock watches provide excellent impact protection, and the superb 200-meter water resistance allows G-Shock watches to be used for any activities in all environments that a human can handle. The quartz movement of a G-Shock is highly accurate, and some models are equipped with automatic time syncing features (through radio waves, Bluetooth, or GPS) that ensure precise accuracy on a daily basis. The basic features like the stopwatch and timer are useful in everyday life, and more advanced features are available for specific outdoor activities. G-Shock watches generally don’t need any maintenance and can be trusted to operate as intended. Not only are G-Shock watches extremely durable and practical, they also offer a fashionably rugged style that is unmatched by other watch brands. In addition to making useful tool watches, G-Shock has evolved into a streetwear fashion brand that offers a large variety of unique timepieces in many colorways.

About G-Shock Features: All current G-Shock watches feature shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance. Most G-Shocks also have a daily alarm or multiple alarms, world time, EL backlight or LED light, stopwatch, countdown timer, adjustable hourly time signal, auto calendar, button tone on/off, and 12/24 hour time format. The most basic and affordable models lack some features such as multiple alarms, world time, and button tone on/off, but may also have some unique features such as the multi-function alarm and flash alerts. Some G-Shocks have more advanced features such as Tough Solar power (rechargeable by the sun and indoor lighting) and Multi-Band 6 (automatic time adjustment via radio wave reception, a.k.a. “Wave Ceptor” or “Radio Controlled”). Some high-end G-Shock watches have the Triple Sensor including a pressure sensor (with altimeter and barometer), compass, and thermometer. Bluetooth smartphone link is now a common feature in many models. G-Shock has also expanded its lineup of fitness-oriented watches with step trackers. For more information on features, see our features glossary.

The signature features of G-Shock watches are their extreme shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance. In this real world test, a $50 G-Shock DW5600E-1V goes 200-meters deep without a problem.

There are many deserving models that had to be excluded from our Top 20 list below. There are really no “bad” or G-Shock watches, and it mainly boils down to personal preference. To learn more about the whole range of G-Shock watches, see our Beginner’s Guide to G-Shock Watches. For more G-Shock selections, see all of our G-Shock Buying Guides, and for the most affordable selections, see Basic G-Shock Watches Around $50. We also recently added a Specifications Catalog for detailed information and comparisons of all current G-Shock models.

20. G-Shock DW-H5600 with Heart Rate Monitor

The classic G-Shock watch gets modern tech in a fitness-oriented redesign.

The DW-H5600 has the classic “square” style of the original G-Shock DW-5000 (but in a slightly larger case) and is the first 5000 series model with a heart rate monitor. Other features include a high-contrast MIP LCD display, step counter, accelerometer, Bluetooth smartphone link, and vibration alerts. The DW-H5600 offers activity tracking and advanced analysis functions such such as cardio load status, blood oxygen level measurement, VO2 max calculation, and sleep measurement. The accelerometer also allows the watch to track gym activity such as weight lifting and stationary bicycle workouts. Although it doesn’t have environmental sensors like the GBD-H2000 (below), it does have sunrise and sunset time and moon data. Unlike most G-Shock watches, the DW-H5600 runs on a lithium-ion battery that is rechargeable by USB cable and solar power.

PROS: Heart rate monitor, step counter, wired and solar-assisted charging
CONS: No environmental sensors, no GPS (but can use a connected phone’s GPS for distance correction), does not support as many activities as GBD-H2000
BEST FOR: Fitness, gym workouts, walking, running, training

19. G-Shock Mudman GW-9500 with Triple Sensor and Duplex Display

G-Shock Mudman GW-9500 Duplex LCD Display

The Mudman adopts Pro Trek technology for the first G-Shock with a duplex display.

A professional-grade Master of G model with features like Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time adjustment, and the Triple Sensor with pressure sensor (altimeter and barometer), compass, and thermometer, the Mudman GW-9500 is ideal for those looking for an advanced G-Shock without Bluetooth. The GW-9500 is based on Casio Pro Trek technology and has a duplex LCD display with one layer depicting pointers that are used for various functions like the compass and barometer. The GW-9500 is thinner than the previous G/GW-9300 (which had the Twin Sensor combo of compass and thermometer) as well as the similarly equipped Rangeman GW-9400. If you’re buying this as a tool watch, we recommend the GW9500-1 model with a positive (non-inverted) LCD display for better visibility in in darker settings.

15. G-Shock GM-B2100 Full Metal “CasiOak”

G-Shock GM-B2100D-1 Angle 2

The GM-B2100 draws on the past while representing the modern era of G-Shock.

While it took the DW-5000 series thirty-five years to get a full metal version, the GM-B2100 was released just three years after the introduction of the GA-2100, which is a testament to the overwhelming popularity of the 2100 line. Like the GMW-B5000, the GM-B2100 has a stainless steel case with screw-back cover, along with a stainless steel bezel and band. The GM-B2100 inherits the traits that made the GA-2100 so popular, including the octagonal bezel inspired by the original G-Shock DW-5000 and a clean and minimalist dial layout, and combines it with a refined yet rugged stainless steel build that doesn’t scream “outdoor watch” but is just as durable as any G-Shock. The GM-B2100 also adds Tough Solar power and Bluetooth smartphone link for features like automatic time adjustment, auto summer time (DST) switching, reminders, and a time and place log. This is a G-Shock watch that can be worn anywhere and offers mainstream appeal to those who might shy away from the usual rugged style of G-Shock. (The GM-2100 offers a similar and more affordable metal style, but with a resin interior case and resin band, and without solar power and Bluetooth.)

PROS: Tough Solar, Bluetooth, relatively thin, popular octagonal analog-digital style

G-Shock GA700UC

An extra-large analog-digital model with front light button and 5-year battery

The GA-700 Series was introduced in late 2016 and was the first affordable analog-digital G-Shock watch with a convenient front-facing LED light button. Another standout feature is the approximate 5-year battery life which is one of the longest for a non-solar analog G-Shock. It also has a dedicated one-press button to start the stopwatch from timekeeping mode and a target time alert. The GA-700 has a large rugged case (53.4 millimeters-wide) combined with a 3D dial and large analog hands. Despite being one of the more advanced G-Shock watches (with more features than the GBA-900), the GBD-200 is also one of the more affordable. The compact case is inspired by the classic square G-Shock with an octagonal bezel, and the high-contrast MIP LCD display provides superior legibility, making it a good choice for non-runners as well. A proven classic case design favored for military use, combined with modern features

The GW-6900-1 is the most advanced version of the popular 6900 line and features Tough Solar power and Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time adjustment. This model has one of the most iconic and long-running G-Shock cases along with the 5000-5600 series. It started off as the DW-6600 in 1994 which was the first G-Shock to use the “EL backlight” that illuminates the entire background of the display, and the DW-6600 is also known as the “Navy SEAL G-Shock“. The GW-6900-1 retains the same user-friendliness as the DW-6600 and its successor the DW-6900 but with more advanced features like world time, multiple (5) daily alarms, and a full auto EL backlight (that can be set to automatically activate in the dark with a turn of the wrist), along with the usual features like the stopwatch and countdown timer.

With its straightforward design and easy-access front backlight button, the GW-6900-1 is recommended for military use or any job that demands reliable timekeeping. The GW-6900-1 is a medium-size watch that is also suitable for smaller wrists but it wears a little larger than the 5000-5600 line.

9. G-Shock GA-2100: Minimalist Analog-Digital with a Touch of Class

The GA-2100 launched in the late 2010s and instantly became one of G-Shock’s most successful series. The design is inspired by the octagonal bezel and band of the original G-Shock, but with a round analog-digital display. The bezel strongly resembles the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, which has earned it the nickname “CasiOak,” although Casio’s vision for the watch was actually an analog-digital version of the DW-5600. It has a carbon fiber-reinforced interior case and is part of the trend of smaller and slimmer G-Shock watches at 45.4 mm wide and 11.8 mm thick. The minimalist, blackout GA-2100-1A1 was an instant bestseller that resulted in a worldwide shortage for over a year.

PROS: Trendy style, affordable, double LED with LCD backlight
CONS: LCD display is quite small, inverted LCD versions can be hard to read
BEST FOR: Casual wear, street fashion

8. G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1 Full-Metal Stainless Steel

The original G-Shock is reborn as a classy stainless steel watch.

When the GMW-B5000D-1 was first released during the 35th Anniversary in 2018, it was an absolute sensation and nearly impossible to get one. The GMW-B5000D-1 is modeled after the original G-Shock but in a fully stainless steel form. Due to its lineage, features, and build quality, it is held in high regard by both G-Shock fanatics and general watch enthusiasts. It’s hard to argue that this isn’t the best-looking full-metal G-Shock ever made.

The GMW-B5000D-1 has full shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance like any other G-Shock. Casio also added the latest technology such as Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 automatic radio timekeeping, and Bluetooth mobile link, which allows the watch to automatically sync the time through a smartphone. The Bluetooth connection also provides other features such as easy watch setting, reminder alerts with descriptions, a time and place log, and a phone finder function. Longtime G-Shock fans will appreciate the full stainless steel inner case and screw-lock case back (like the original G-Shock DW-5000C).

The GMW-B5000 series is also available in other colorways and titanium versions.

PROS: Stainless steel case , DLC-coated screw-back, solar-powered, Multi-Band 6 radio wave timekeeping, Bluetooth smartphone link
CONS: Relatively heavy for a G-Shock (but titanium versions are lighter)

7. G-Shock GWF-A1000 Frogman Diver’s 200M Watch

G-Shock Frogman GWF-A1000 GWF-A1000-1A2 ISO Divers 200M

The iconic Frogman gets a makeover with an analog display

While all G-Shock watches have 200-meter water resistance, the Frogman is the only G-Shock line with the ISO-certified “Diver’s 200M” designation, and it has buttons that are fully tested for underwater use. The GWF-A1000 is the first Frogman with an analog display. It has an innovative and effective way of displaying the elapsed dive time by combining the hour and minute hands into a single hand to display the minutes elapsed, and it uses the hour and minute hands to display the hours and minutes (with the second hand running in reverse) for surface interval time. The GWF-A1000 is also the first Frogman with a carbon monocoque case. While the luxury MR-G series is positioned as the top of the G-Shock lineup, some fans will always regard the Frogman as G-Shock’s top model.

PROS: ISO Divers 200M designation, Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, Bluetooth, Tide Graph
CONS: Some people are divided on the change to an analog display
BEST FOR: Diving, water sports

6. G-Shock GA-100-1A1 Large Analog-Digital Watch

A simple but effective best-selling model

Part of the breed of large analog-digital G-Shock watches that revitalized the brand in the 2010s, the GA-100 is one of the best-selling models and has become a modern classic. The GA-100 series reaffirmed G-Shock’s status as an innovator of practical and fashionable timepieces. The GA-100-1A1 features a design inspired by an airplane’s instrument panel with high-contrast analog hands and an anti-magnetic structure. It also has an LCD display for functions like the stopwatch and countdown timer. Other features include an auto LED light, world time, and 5 daily alarms. The GA-100-1A1 is a popular choice for police and other uniformed workers. For gifts or first time G-Shock buyers who mainly need a watch to tell the time, the GA-100 is highly recommended. The GA-110 has also been a best-selling model, but we prefer the simplicity and viewability of the GA-100’s dial.

PROS: Classic large case, straightforward design, high-visibility analog hands
CONS: Approximate 2-year battery life

5. G-Shock GW-5000U-1JF Origin Tribute Screw-Back Watch

Close in design and spirit to the original G-Shock from 1983

Although this list originally excluded import models, the GW-5000U-1JF deserves a place because of its status and popularity outside of Japan. What makes this watch special is that it is a tribute to the original G-Shock DW-5000C from 1983 but with the updated technology that most fans want. It is made in Japan, and it has a stainless steel inner case with a screw-lock case back and DLC coating. Also, it is not a limited edition but a regularly produced model in Japan, so it is not hard to find and purchase for a reasonable price. The face design bordering the display has a clean and subdued style, and the modern features include Tough Solar power and Multi-Band 6 automatic radio timekeeping. The original G-Shock from 1983 also had this inner stainless steel case and screw-back structure, but it was later abandoned for a resin inner case and a stainless steel back plate held in place by four screws. With its superior build quality and classic lineage, the GW-5000U-1JF is one of the finest examples of a G-Shock and evidence of the original’s timelessness. The new “U” version now offers an upgraded LED light and many improved functions. (For the differences between the GW-5000U-1JF and previous GW-5000-1JF, see the Updated Module “U” Series. The GW-5000U-1ER is also available in Europe.)

(Update: The GW5000U-1 was officially available at Casio America, but it quickly sold out and it’s uncertain if or when it will be restocked.)

PROS: Stainless steel inner case and screw-back with DLC coating, made in Japan, Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6, the original G-Shock case design
CONS: Must be imported (for U.S.), noticeably heavier than GW-M5610, some may find the GW-M5610 more comfortable, premium price
BEST FOR: G-Shock purists, watch collectors and enthusiasts

4. G-Shock GWG-B1000 Mudmaster Solar Analog-Digital Watch

G-Shock GWG-B1000-1A Angle

A tough-looking analog-digital G-Shock with Triple Sensor and Bluetooth

The GWG-B1000 Mudmaster continues the rugged style of the GWG-1000 and GWG-2000, with a Carbon Core Guard case that offers a more comfortable fit than the bulkier GWG-1000. It also adds Bluetooth smartphone link and an updated Location Indicator function that allows the saved location to be edited with a map on the smartphone app. Sunrise and sunset time is another new feature that the GWG-1000 and GWG-2000 lack.

The Mudmaster has cylindrical button shafts that are protected from mud and dust and large buttons that are easy to press with gloves, making it ideal for extreme environments and activities. This “ABC” watch is equipped with the Triple Sensor that includes a pressure sensor (altimeter and barometer), compass, and thermometer. The GWG-B1000 is the first G-Shock watch with the Triple Sensor, Bluetooth, and Tough Solar power.

PROS: Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, Triple Sensor, Bluetooth, sapphire crystal, rugged style
CONS: Inverted LCD display is harder to read in some conditions
BEST FOR: Outdoor exploration, extreme environments

3. G-Shock GW-9400-1 Rangeman Solar Digital Survival Watch

G-Shock GW9400-1 Rangeman

An affordable fan-favorite with survival features

The GW-9400 Rangeman is one of the most popular watches in Casio’s Master of G signature G-Shock line of professional-use watches. Its success can be attributed to its Triple Sensor (altimeter-barometer, compass, thermometer) feature, aggressively bulky appearance that offers extreme shock protection, and reasonable price.

The Rangeman is resistant to mud and dust with its protected button structure, and the sensors are easily accessed with a single button. It is a good choice for those who like the old school digital style of G-Shock but also want the latest features at an affordable price. It is one of the most functional tactical watches available with features like sunrise/sunset data, low-temperature resistance, 1000-hour stopwatch, 24-hour countdown timer, and 40-record memory for date/time, bearing, and atmospheric pressure and temperature readings. It also has Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6 for maintenance-free operation. It is one of the best choices for a serious all-around outdoor or survival watch, as its digital structure will theoretically be less prone to damage than an analog watch with moving parts, and all of its functions can be fully powered by the sun. If you can only have one G-Shock, the Rangeman may very well be the best choice. For more color options and limited editions, see all Rangeman models.

PROS: Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6, Triple Sensor, sunrise/sunset data
CONS: Large for a digital display model
BEST FOR: Hiking, hunting, outdoor recreation, survival

2. G-Shock GA-B2100

G-Shock GA-B2100-1A Angle

A fan-favorite gets Tough Solar and Bluetooth.

Although it made its debut relatively recently in 2019, the GA-2100 series quickly became one of the most popular models of all time, and it is now considered one of the four masterpieces of G-Shock. The new GA-B2100 series is G-Shock giving the fans what they want. The GA-B2100 is essentially the GA-2100 with Tough Solar power and Bluetooth smartphone link. (One difference is that the dial indicator on the GA-B2100 is a function indicator rather than a day-of-the-week indicator.) It has nearly the same slim profile at just 0.1 millimeter thicker than the GA-2100. There aren’t many choices when it comes to affordable analog-digital G-Shock models with Tough Solar, and the GA-B2100 is the clear favorite when it comes to style. With solar power, you won’t have to change the battery every few years, and the Bluetooth link adds a variety of functions including daily automatic time adjustment. We recommend the GAB2100-1A, which features color accents inspired by the classic DW-5600C-1V from 1987 and a more legible non-inverted LCD display.

PROS: The slimmest solar-powered G-Shock watch, fashionable analog style, double LED light with LCD backlight
CONS: No Multi-Band 6, no auto light activation
BEST FOR: Casual wear, all-around

1. G-Shock GW-M5610U-1 Solar Digital Sports Watch

The original G-Shock style with modern features added

The GW-M5610U-1 (GWM5610-1 in the U.S.) continues the lineage of the first-ever G-Shock (DW-5000C) that launched the brand in 1983. The GW-M5610U-1 has the same classic square shape as the original and is one of the best-selling G-Shock watches. It is a good choice for those who prefer a standard-sized digital G-Shock over chunkier larger models. This watch also has a relatively slim profile (12.7mm) and serves as an unobtrusive timepiece for work or recreation. The GW-M5610U-1 is recommended for the first-time G-Shock buyer who wants a simple, no-nonsense watch for all purposes. It continues the tradition of Absolute Toughness and provides an extremely rugged and maintenance-free option at a very affordable price.

Note: As of 2022, you may receive the GW-M5610U-1 with the updated module when ordering the GWM5610-1 from Amazon.com and other American retailers. The new module features an upgraded light (LED) and enhanced functions. To identify the new version, check the case back cover for the module number (3495) and model name (GW-M5610U). For more information on what’s new and different with this model, see Updated Module “U” Series. Casio America confirmed that the GW-M5610U-1 replaced the GWM5610-1 but retained the old name at casio.com/us.

PROS: Original case design, slim profile, solar-charging and radio time-sync
CONS: May feel small on very large wrists
BEST FOR: All-purpose

hello, I’m a user of GShock G 6900 1dr a tough solar watch. But I have a doubt if it withstand in a cold weather condition since it needs primarily the power of direct sunlight. And if it gets the power of a fluorescent lamp in a prolong cold weather condition. Would it be adequate enough to support the watch for week or two?

Hi,

I am considering purchasing either the gw-9400 rangeman or the new gprb-1000. I am not sure the new hangman is worth the extra cost and it is also very large so am concerned about wearability. I like to know your thoughts?

Thanks

Yes, the GPR-B1000 Rangeman is very large. If you are concerned about that and are not planning to use the GPS feature a lot I would recommend the GW-9400.

Watch Geek, I’m looking to gift myself a G-Shock for the holidays this year, looking for the best all digital for under $100. After watching your excellent GW-6900 module review video, it appears this watch/module might be the best digital in my price range. Would you agree, or offer any other suggestions? Like you, I want pure functionality, and all items on the watch face should have some purpose. Thoughts? Thanks for all the effort you put into this site and your videos – they are truly the best!

Thank you, but G-Central and Watch Geek are not run by the same person. GW-6900 is an excellent choice. For Tough Solar/Multi-Band 6 under $100 I would say that one and the GW-M5610 are the best with the GW-M5610 being the smallest and slimmest option. There are more models in that price range listed on our Black Friday page. Another one I would consider is the GW-7900-1 (also on that page) which has the advantage of having larger buttons and the tide/moon graph.

Hello, please help me,
I can’t make the final decision which to purchase G-Shock GWG-1000 or G-Shock GW-9400,
I like g-shock mudmaster design and simplicity but it amounts two fold expensive. I think G-Shock GW-9400 has more features with sunset/rise tracking and cold resistance and et cetera.
1. Is these two watches equal in batteries quality (same quality in solar technology).
2. Please define what supremacy has GWG-1000 over G-Shock GW-9400 except for design and vibration resistance?
3. Will G-Shock GW-9400 be damaged if I wear it while ride motorcycle (chopper)?

1. They are about the same but the GWG-1000 will use up the battery at a slightly faster rate (for timekeeping). This shouldn’t be an issue if you keep the watch fully charged. How often you use the sensors and certain features will also affect the battery life. Features that move the hands such as the compass and hand shift feature may also use up more battery than the GW-9400 would.
2. GWG-1000 has a sapphire crystal and GW-9400 has mineral glass. Also the electronic crown on the GWG-1000 can be considered an advantage as it makes adjusting the settings a little easier and quicker. (Something else to consider is that the countdown timer on the GWG-1000 is limited to 60 minutes but is 24 hours for the GW-9400.)
3. It should be okay assuming nothing hits it but there are no guarantees. It should fare better than other brands at least.

I liked this list. There was no surprises and i agree most on the list.
I owned a lot of Gshocks but at the moment i only have tour number 1. GW-M5610-1. Good bang for the buck and a good size for me.
I´ll see what they next will be, i had a Gulfmaster for the alti-/barometer function, but it was just to big.

Pretty sure you can adjust the settings on the G-Steel GST-B100 without a smartphone – it definitely makes it simpler to pair with the app and select time zones and alarms there, but the crown on the side (which is otherwise completely redundant) does allow you to adjust at least some of the settings manually.

Sure, or you could go with a GA-400 if you don’t need the Bluetooth and music features.

What is the best of mudmaster GWG 1000 or new model. Answer please which model you advise for me.

GWG-1000 is still considered the top Mudmaster, but the GG-B100 has several features that the GWG-1000 doesn’t such as Bluetooth mobile link, step counter, location indicator, and carbon fiber bezel. GG-B100 does not have Tough Solar power or Multi-Band 6 radio wave timekeeping like the GWG-1000. Which one is best for you depends on which features you will be using the most. If you are going to use the sensors a lot then I would suggest the GWG-1000 because it is solar-powered.

Thanks, yeah apparently the stopwatch memory doesn’t display the correct times if the watch is in 12 hour mode, confirmed by three people, one of whom bought two watches with both having the same problem. Using 24 hour mode solves the problem but I realize that might not be acceptable for some people.
