GBD-H1000 “G-SQUAD HR” Videos by G-Shock EU

G-Shock EU released an English-language video of the upcoming G-Shock G-SQUAD GBD-H1000. The watch is referred to as the “G-SQUAD HR” in the video, with the HR referring to the optical heart rate monitor.

The video notes that this is the first-ever G-Shock with a built-in heart rate monitor. (The DWG-100 “Lungman” from 1999 had a pulse sensor, but it required a fingertip to be placed on it, so it was not a dedicated heart rate monitor like the GBD-H1000.)

One feature that the video mentions, which is not on the official announcement and product pages, is that the training data can be synchronized with popular fitness apps such as Strava, Google Fit, and “more.”

The video provides some closeup shots and highlights the major features of the watch, including GPS activity tracking, VO2max oxygen measurement, the “5 Sensor” (with pressure sensor altimeter-barometer, compass, thermometer, accelerometer, and the HR monitor), Bluetooth with phone call and text alerts, and the solar-assisted power system (that can be charged by both the sun and artificial lighting). The video concludes by pointing out that the GBD-H1000 is as tough as any other G-Shock with shock resistance, vibration resistance, and 20-bar (200-meter) water resistance. (For more features, see our original GBD-H1000 article.)

Update 1: G-Shock EU released another video which is an interview with Casio’s research and development team. (Make sure to enable closed captioning with the “CC” button to see the subtitles.) The team discusses what makes the G-Shock GBD-H1000 unqiue, how it is designed for fitness use and takes motion and sweating into consideration, and the unique button design. They also discuss how they managed to get so much technology (like solar power) into the watch and how they continue to maintain the toughness expected with new G-Shock models.
