In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the first-ever Casio wristwatch (Casiotron QW02-10) from 1974, Casio is releasing the Casiotron TRN-50-2A, a limited edition homage, in late February 2024. One detail that was not revealed in previous leaks is that the watch has a super-twisted nematic (STN) LCD display for enhanced contrast and visibility (which is mentioned in the official press release but not on the product page). The made-in-Japan watch, which also has mineral glass and a stainless steel screw-back case, measures 42.7 x 39.1 x 12.3 millimeters and weighs 111 grams.
In addition to recreating the retro style of the QW02, the TRN-50 also has modern features added such as Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time adjustment, and Bluetooth smartphone link. A Bluetooth connection with the Casio Watches app offers more functions such as auto time adjustment, easy watch setting, around 300 world time cities (plus user-added point), time & place log, reminder alerts, and phone finder. The QW02 was known for its date display with the innovative automatic calendar, and the TRN-50 has additional features that are common in modern Casio watches.
Other features include 50-meter water resistance, world time (5, with auto DST), 1/100-second stopwatch (for first 60 minutes, 1-second after 60 minutes, max 23:59’59, with elapsed, split, 1st-2nd place times), 24-hour countdown timer (settable in seconds, minutes, hours), 5 daily alarms with 1 snooze, hourly time signal, full auto LED backlight (Super Illuminator) with afterglow (2 or 4 seconds duration), full auto-calendar, button tone on/off, power saving, low battery alert, 12/24-hour format, and adjustable date format (with date/month display swapping and six languages for day of week). The module 3542 has an accuracy of +/-15 seconds per month.
The Casiotron TRN-50-2A is limited to 4,000 units worldwide, and the unique serial number of each watch (e.g. “0001/4000”) will be engraved on the case back cover. In Japan, the TRN-50-2AJR will be released on February 29 with a tax-included price of 63,800 yen. The TRN-50-2A will also be released internationally, and the U.S. price is expected to be around $500.
We suggest following your region’s official Casio site (casio.com) for more release information. Due to the historical significance and limited supply, it is expected to sell quickly and be difficult to obtain. It remains to be seen if Casio will be offering the TRN-50-2A by lottery sales at all, or if it will also be available from any authorized dealers.

Casio America now has the TRN50-2A available for pre-ordering for $500 at casio.com/us. The watch is also being sold by some authorized dealers.
Pre-orders in Singapore will be available on February 28 for S$699 at casio.com/sg.
