Casio Japan announced the new G-Shock Mudmaster GG-B100X watches for February 2026 (GG-B100XM-1A and GG-B100XMB-1A). Along with the use of stainless steel front bezel pieces instead of carbon fiber, these new GG-B100XM models also have a new module (5744) compared to previous GG-B100 models with module 5594. Both the GG-B100X and GG-B100 have the same specifications listed on their product pages (other than the aforementioned differences, the use of bio-based resin on the GG-B100X, and the GG-B100XM models being a little heavier at 104 grams), and at first glance, it’s not clear what else is new with module 5744. After recalling previous Mudmaster upgrades and taking a look at the instruction manual for module 5744, we have identified what we believe to be the main difference. (You can find the PDF version of the English manual at at casio.com.)
The previous GG-B100 (with module 5594) has a Location Indicator function (requiring Bluetooth) that points to the direction and displays the distance to a location memory point. A criticism of this feature was that the memory point can only be set to the user’s current location, so it can only function like a backtracking tool and not as a more robust navigational tool that can set any point as a destination. The Mudmaster GWG-B1000, which was launched in 2023 and is the only G-Shock with Tough Solar, the Triple Sensor, and Bluetooth, corrected this limitation with an updated Location Indicator that allows the location memory point to be set to any other point by using a map on the Casio Watches smartphone app. This is also possible with the GG-B100X models, according to the instructions for module 5744. (Setting a different location is not available in China.) This appears to be the major difference between the new GG-B100X and old GG-B100 models, and the “X” may signify the sort of destination marking one would draw on a map.
The excerpt below from the GG-B100X (module 5744) instructions also appears in the GWG-B1000 (module 5713) instructions and does not appear in the old GG-B100 (module 5594) instructions.
Casio is also rumored to be updating some previous GG‑B100 colorways to GG‑B100X versions that will retain the carbon fiber bezels, which leads us to believe that GG-B100 models are still selling well nearly seven years after their introduction. Major features of the GG-B100 include the Quad Sensor (pressure with altimeter and barometer, compass, thermometer, and step tracker), Bluetooth smartphone link, and mud-and-dust-resistant buttons.
