Alan Ritchson wears a G-Shock Mudman GW-9500 in the upcoming movie War Machine. Not to be confused with 2017’s War Machine starring Brad Pitt, this War Machine is a sci-fi action film starring Ritchson as an Army Ranger candidate known as “81.” The movie will begin streaming on Netflix on March 6, 2026.
The use of the mud-resistant GW-9500 by a soldier seems realistic but is not entirely accurate in this setting. According to the Army’s latest RANGER SCHOOL PACKING LIST V.11 (which also applies to Airborne School), soldiers are allowed to use a watch that is not equipped with GPS, internet, a compass, or step counter. The GW-9500 is one of the more advanced G-Shock watches designed for outdoor trekking and includes a compass as part of its Triple Sensor (along with a thermometer and a pressure sensor with altimeter and barometer). The watch also features Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time adjustment, a duplex LCD display with compass pointers, and sunrise and sunset time.
The model Ritchson wears is the GW9500-3 ($380 at casio.com) with an olive green band and an inverted LCD display.
