We previously had strong evidence that the G-Shock GW-5000U-1ER is coming to Europe, and now it is official. The official Casio Europe online shop has it listed as coming soon at de.casio-shop.eu with a price of €299. The GW-M5610U-1ER and GW-M5610U-1BER (€129 each) are also listed as coming soon. (The country can be changed on the casio-shop.eu website, and the countries covered include Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, and Sweden.)
The GW-5000U-1ER is a premium square model featuring Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 automatic radio time adjustment, and a DLC-coated stainless steel inner case and screw-back. The screw-back structure is considered special because the original G-Shock DW-5000C and other early G-Shock models were screw-backs, unlike most of the 5600 models of today that have a resin inner case and a case back secured by four screws. Prior GW-5000 models were made in Japan, and we believe that the same will be true of the GW-5000U-1.
The GW-5000U’s predecessor, the GW-5000-1JF, was well-known and popular around the world, despite being a Japan-only model. This updated “U” version improves on the original module by replacing the EL backlight with an LED light with an adjustable afterglow, along with adding other improved functions involving the stopwatch, countdown timer, date display format, and world time. Another convenient new feature is the quick return to timekeeping mode by holding down the Mode button for one second.
The GW-M5610U-1ER (black with red accent) and GW-M5610U-1BER (black with inverted LCD display) have the same updated module as the GW-5000U-1ER. For more information about the updated features, see our original post on the 5000/5600 “U” Series, which includes some other models that may not be released outside of Japan.
