G-Shock shipped 10 million watches in 2019

G-Shock has been on a roll lately, which is apparent to anyone who has been following the brand and its products in the past few years. In fiscal 2019, the amount of watches shipped surpassed 10 million units for the first time.

In 2017, G-Shock celebrated 100 million watches shipped in its lifetime. In the 34-year span it took to reach that milestone, G-Shock averaged about 3 million watches shipped per year. 2019’s amount is quite an improvement over its historical average, and it looks like G-Shock will reach the 200 million milestone much faster.

Part of the increase is attributed to the expansion and success of the GMW-B5000 line and other metal case models, which reportedly account for 20% of the total and are planned to grow to 30%. Another factor is the expansion of overseas markets, particularly the Southeast Asian ASEAN region.

It is a serious number, and for comparison:
– Switzerland shipped approx 21 million watches in total in 2019
– the big winner however is Apple which is thought to have shipped approx 30 million watches in 2019
