Pro Trek PRW-35LD-5 and PRW-35TLD-7 are the first Casio watches with a phosphorescent digital LCD display for light-free viewing in the dark

Following the March release in Asia of the analog-digital Pro Trek PRW-61LD-3 (casio.com) with a phosphorescent dial, Casio has applied the same concept to a digital LCD display with the Pro Trek PRW-35 compact climber line. The PRW-35LD-5 and PRW-35TLD-7 are the first Casio watches with a glow-in-the-dark LCD display.
The phosphorescent LCD display of the PRW-35LD and PRW-35TLD glows in the dark after exposure to light. This is not an EL backlight.
A phosphorescent layer below allows the LCD display to be viewed in the dark without using the LED backlight, which will help when performing actions that require more than a few seconds or when viewing data on the watch frequently. According to Casio, shining a headlamp (with 200 lumens) on the display from about 5 centimeters away for one minute will result in the display glowing for about an hour. Smaller amounts of lighting, such as exposure to indoor lights and the LED backlight, can also contribute to the display’s glowing effect.
The PRW-61LD and PRW-61TLD are also equipped with the LED backlight.
Both models measure 51.2 x 44.6 x 13.0 millimeters with a stainless steel bezel and lightweight resin case back. The PRW-35LD-5 (45 grams) has a black case and gray IP bezel and a brown bio-based resin band. The PRW-35TLD-7 (81 grams) is the first PRW-35 model with a titanium band and sapphire glass with an internal anti-reflective coating, and the bezel and band are treated with titanium carbide. Major features of the PRW-35 include 100-meter water resistance, Tough Solar power, Multi-Band 6 auto radio time adjustment, the Triple Sensor (pressure with altimeter and barometer, compass, and thermometer), sunrise and sunset times, and low temperature resistance.
In Japan, the PRW-35LD-5JF (48,400 yen) and PRW-35TLD-7JF (88,000 yen) will be released in May 2025. It’s uncertain if these models will make their way to the U.S. and Europe, as only one PRW-35 model was previously released in Europe and none were released in the U.S. yet.
