Amazon is selling the updated G-Shock DW-5600UE-1 as DW5600E-1V

G-Shock DW-5600UE-1 LED Backlight

According to recent customer reviews, Amazon.com is selling the updated G-Shock DW-5600UE-1 with module 3525 under the same name (DW5600E-1V) and product page as the older model with module 3229 and the EL backlight. A review from February 4, 2024, stated that the customer received the DW-5600UE-1 with module 3525. Another review from February 8 shows a photo of the watch which is clearly the DW-5600UE-1 (with the “LED Backlight” label below the LCD display). Both of these reviews are from verified purchases. (Another review from February 8 showed a photo of the old DW5600E-1V.) The product page still shows the photos and specifications of the old model and module.

The difference between the updated DW-5600UE-1 and the old DW-5600E-1V is that the DW-5600UE-1 has the LED backlight instead of the electro-luminescent (EL) backlight. The LED light is more power-efficient and has a white hue instead of the blue-green of the EL backlight. The DW-5600UE-1 with module 3525 has an estimated battery life of five years versus two years for module 3229 (assuming that the light and alarm with flash alert are each used once per day).

Please note that this applies only to the DW5600E-1V that is “sold by Amazon.com” and not from other sellers, and we cannot guarantee that you will receive the DW-5600UE-1 and not the old DW5600E-1V under the Amazon listing (but if you don’t, it will be easy to return it since it’s from Amazon). The official Casio U.S. website is still showing the images and specifications of the old DW5600E-1V (casio.com/us), but we expect the DW-5600UE-1 to replace it there sometime in the future (as well as at other major retailers) under the old name, in the same way that the GW-M5610U-1 replaced the GWM5610-1 without a name change in the United States and North America.

Other new DW-5600 models are also using module 3525 (some without the “U” in the name), but many new collaboration models are still using module 3229.

There is no evidence that Amazon.com is selling the updated DW-6900U-1 as the DW6900-1V yet, but that is likely to be the case soon. (The DW-6900U-1 was released a month after the DW-5600UE-1 in Japan.) Other updated versions of popular G-Shock watches are also expected to replace their older counterparts in the U.S. at some point.

(Europe is expected to get the DW-5600UE-1ER, DW-6900U-1ER, DW-5600UBB-1ER, and GM-5600U-1ER under these new names.)
