G-Shock Japan releases DW-5600UE-1 and DW-6900UB-9 new standard models with LED light

G-Shock Japan released the DW-5600UE-1JF and DW-6900UB-9JF, which are standard models for the DW-5600 and DW-6900 series that have replaced the previous DW-5600E-1 and DW-6900B-9. Like some other recent releases for these series, these watches use modules 3525 (DW-5600) and 3529 (DW-6900), which have the same functions as their predecessors but are equipped with a more power-efficient LED backlight which results in a longer battery life of about five years versus two years for the old modules.

Previously, the DW-5600E-1 and DW-6900B-9 were Japan models known for their “Fox Fire” label on the face (which referred to a species of bioluminescent fungi that emitted a blue-green color like the EL backlight), while the standard international models DW-5600E-1V and DW-6900-1V have an “Illuminator” label. The Japan models also have a “Water 20Bar Resist” label instead of “Water 200M Resist.” The DW-6900B-9 also had different colors for the button labels and water resist label than the DW-6900-1V, along with a tinted LCD display, which are carried over to the new DW-6900UB-9JF. The new DW-5600UE-1JF and DW-6900UB-9JF do not have the “Fox Fire” label and instead have an “Illuminator” label (as the LED light color is white), along with an “LED Backlight” label. The international DW-5600E-1V and DW-6900-1V models are also expected to be upgraded at some point.

In Japan, the DW-5600UE-1JF and DW-6900UB-9JF have a tax-included price of 13,200 yen each and are now available online at casio.com/jp.

Update: The DW-5600UE-1 and DW-6900UB-9 will also be released throughout Asia in February 2024. Asia is also getting the DW-5600UBB-1, DW-6900U-1, and DW-6900UMS-1, which are also updated models with the LED backlight. The DW-5600UBB-1, DW-5600UE-1ER, and DW-6900U-1ER will also be released in Europe.

Upgraded 5000-5600 models with Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6 were released in 2021.
