Casio will reportedly auction one-of-one 18k gold G-Shock G-D001 co-designed by AI

A recent article by GQ states that the one-of-one gold G-Shock G-D001, which was designed with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), will be sold at auction in December by auction house Phillips. According to the article, designers used AI “to develop the exterior aesthetic and to help make the overall structure as light and shock resistant as possible.”

The article (linked below) includes images of the watch, and it almost seems like a hoax since the web-like style is such a departure from other G-Shock watches, but the watch dial, case back, and the G-Shock-branded light box display all look legit, and the article quotes a Casio representative and Paul Boutros (Head of Watches, Americas) of Phillips. The case back states that it is a Dream Project model that is made in Japan with a new module (“5740” if we are reading it correctly). The watch reportedly has solar power and Multi-Band 6 auto radio time correction. There is also the “K18” label on the case back, which refers to it being 18-karat gold. This is the same specification as the G-Shock G-D5000-9 from 2019, another gold model that sold for $69,500 and was limited to thirty-five watches worldwide. The G-D001 has an estimated sales price of $70,000 to $140,000, which would make it the most expensive Casio watch ever.

GQ is the only media source to report about this release so far, and there is no information about it on the Phillips website yet.
