G-Shock MRG-B5000BA-1: A peak square inspired by blue ink

G-Shock MRG-B5000BA-1 Display

Coming in June, the G-Shock MRG-B5000BA-1 is the first MRG-B5000 model to follow the two debut models of the peak origin series. The blue face and accents on the bezel and band parts are inspired by the blue ink used in traditional Japanese ink wash painting and calligraphy. The blue face is created with a vapor deposition, giving it a metallic appearance. The blue parts of the bezel and band pins are created with a blue ion plating over DLC-coated parts. The black bezel and band is the result of a DLC processing. The watch is the first MRG-B5000 model with an inverted LCD display.

The MRG-B5000 puts the essence of the original “square” G-Shock into peak MR-G form. The MRG-B5000 has a Cobarion front bezel and DAT55G titanium band. The MRG-B5000BA-1 measures 49.4 × 43.2 × 12.9 millimeters and weighs 114 grams. The MRG-B5000BA-1 features shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, Tough Solar, Multi-Band 6 auto radio time syncing, and Bluetooth smartphone link.

The watch was announced in Japan (MRG-B5000BA-1JR) with a tax-included price of 462,000 yen. The MRG-B5000BA-1 is also expected to be released internationally.

Update: G-Shock U.S. is releasing the MRGB5000BA-1 with a retail price of $4,000.
