G-Shock upgrades more popular digital watches with LED backlight (DW-5900U, GW-2310U, GW-6900U, GX-56U)

Following upgrades to the G-Shock 5000-5600 and DW-6900 lines which began in 2021, Casio is releasing more updates to popular colorways from various digital series, starting with Japan in January 2026. These watches are equipped with new modules featuring a more power-efficient (and less degrading over the long term) LED backlight instead of the previous EL backlight. As with other “U” models, these watches are expected to eventually replace the previous versions, and most of them are expected to be released worldwide. The modules have already appeared in previous releases, but this is the first time that they are available in these particular mainstay colorways. The Tough Solar/Multi-Band 6 models have only the LED upgrade, and not other functional enhancements seen on models like the GW-M5610U and GW-5000U.

Update: The DW-5900U-1, DW-5900UBB-1, and GX-56UBB-1 are also listed at the Casio International site to be released in other Asian countries. (The “GW” models are excluded because the Multi-Band 6 feature is limited to Japan and China in the Asia region.)

The G-Shock DW-5900U-1 and DW-5900UBB-1 are recreations of the DW-5900 from 1992, which introduced the “Triple Graph” style and was revived in 2018 during the G-Shock 35th Anniversary. These models have double the battery life (10 years) of the previous DW-5900-1.
