Herschel Supply Co., maker of fashionable outdoor apparel, bags, and accessories, is teaming up with G-Shock to release its first timepiece: the G-Shock G-LIDE GLX-5600HSC-3. Inspired by the colors of the right-angle MX-991/U Flashlight (a.k.a. the Army flashlight), this limited edition watch is matte olive green with a gun metal IP buckle and face protector. Other custom features include a dark yellow face and Herschel branding plus military-style “HSCO First Watch Division” specs on the band. The watch comes in a matching tin case.
The stainless steel case back has the phrase “YOU CAN SURF LATER” engraved on it. This particular phrase was found on a soldier’s Zippo from the Vietnam War, presumably with the intention of giving him something enjoyable to look forward to. Jamie Cormack, Co-Founder of Herschel Supply, said, “This ‘first watch’ is for the dedicated bunch on dawn patrol surf sessions that balance their daily lives with what drives them.”
Herschel Supply Co. was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, with products available in 94 countries.
The GLX-5600 base is a G-LIDE surfing model housed in the classic square case. It features a tide and moon graph, 200-meter water resistance, world time, flash alert, 1/100 second stopwatch, countdown timer, 3 alarms with 1 snooze alarm, mute function, auto EL backlight with afterglow, and approximate 7-year battery.
The GLX-5600HSC-3CR will go on sale on October 10, 2019, for US$150 at herschel.com and gshock.com, and also at select global Herschel and G-Shock retailers including the G-Shock Soho Store in New York City.
