The iconic DW-6900 is one of the best-selling G-Shock models of all time and gained great popularity with celebrities in the hip hop scene along with military service members. The DW-6900 evolved from the Triple Graph design of the DW-5900 and the front light button structure of the DW-6600. The DW6900-1V is one of the most affordable G-Shock watches and is available discounted to around $50 at some retailers. Along with the DW-5600, the DW-6900 is a popular base model for limited editions and collaborations.

Note: New DW-6900 models with Module 3529 (introduced in May 2023) have an LED backlight and improved battery life of approximately 5 years.

Update: As of 2025, large U.S. retailers have been known to be selling the updated DW-6900U-1 (with LED light) under the same name as the DW6900-1V. Casio.com/us has also updated its DW6900-1V product page to show an image of the DW-6900U-1, but their specifications data still reflects the old model (EL light, 2-year battery). We believe that Casio.com/us is now most likely selling the DW-6900U-1 as the DW6900-1V. To identify the DW-6900U-1, look for the “LED Backlight” label on the left side of the display, or look at the case back for module number “3529” or the series name “DW-6900U.” It’s possible that some third-party sellers may still be selling the old DW6900-1V.

The DW-6900 was considered a larger oversized model back in the 1990s. In comparison to the larger G-Shock watches of today, we categorize it as a medium size, although it does wear somewhat larger and thicker than the DW-5600.

Suggested Uses: Military, Outdoors, Retro Style, Streetwear

G-Shock DW-6900 Rating By G-Central
The DW-6900 wears larger than the DW-5600 but the EL backlight is easier to activate with the front light button. Like the DW-5600, it lacks the features of higher priced models, but it offers great value at its commonly discounted price of around $50.
