Stainless steel G-Shock G-STEEL GST-B1000 watch does not look like a G-Shock

G-Shock GST-B1000

Leaked images of the upcoming G-Shock GST-B1000 series show that Casio is continuing to take G-Shock into bold new directions. What’s striking about the analog GST-B1000 is how “normal” it looks, which seems to be the opposite approach of the GA-V01 in terms of design and target audience. Returning to a full analog display like the GST-B100, the GST-B1000 simply doesn’t look like a G-Shock and has style elements that seem to have more in common with contemporary mechanical watches from other brands. Gone are the industrial and rugged styles of the typical G-Shock exteriors, in favor of a more refined and dressier appearance with a thinner, logo-free front bezel.

Another unusual element compared to other G-Shock watches is the sharply textured dial, which brings to mind the luxurious styling of the MRG-B2100. Also unusual is the indicator serving as a 0-30 measurement. On Casio Edifice watches with a 0-30 indicator, it is used as a stopwatch minute hand (and limits the maximum measurement to 29 minutes and 59 seconds). There is also a 24-hour indicator. Other labels show that the functions include a stopwatch, countdown timer, and alarm. The watch is also expected to have Tough Solar power and Bluetooth smartphone link, but there is no battery level indicator on the dial. (There have been “GST” watches without Tough Solar like the GST-210, but all “GST-B” models have had Tough Solar and Bluetooth.)

Geesgshock reported the dimensions and weight as 46.9 x 44.2 x 11.6 millimeters and 118 grams, which is smaller than the GST-B100 and more like the GM-B2100. The thinness and weight are likely to be a major selling points, as 11.6 mm is thinner than the MTG-B3000 (12.1 mm) and GA-2100 (11.8 mmm). The weight is also on the very light side for a stainless steel watch, compared to the GM-B2100 (165 grams) and GM-2110 (146 grams), and this suggests that the GST-B1000 will have a Carbon Core Guard case like other G-STEEL (GST) models and possibly some unique engineering with the bezel and band.

The debut models will include the GST-B1000D-1A with black dial, GST-B1000D-2A with blue dial, and GST-B1000D-3A with green dial. The old GSTB100D-1A with stainless steel band is $440, and we expect the new GSTB1000 watches to be around that price. (Rumors place the price at around 350 to 450 euros and 60,000 to 75,000 yen.)
