G-Shock GW-BX5600 is [not much] larger than other squares

G-Shock Japan is taking pre-orders for the GW-BX5600-1JF and GW-BX5600-1A1JF for 30,800 yen each, and the full specifications are now available at casio.com/intl. These models were the subject of many leaks and are highly anticipated because they feature the original “square” style combined with an MIP LCD display, and they are the first G-Shock watches with MIP that are fully powered by light with the Tough Solar charging system. They also have Multi-Band 6 time adjustment and offer additional functions with Bluetooth connectivity.

[Update: Disregard the rest of this post because Casio originally listed the wrong dimensions for the GW-BX5600 models. The correct and updated dimensions are 49.1 x 44.1 x 13.4 mm, so this makes it slightly larger than the DW-5600 and GW-M5610 and slightly smaller than the DW-H5600. We usually don’t expect this kind of mistake from Casio, but it can happen. There is a wrist shot posted in this reddit.com/r/gshock thread, and the watch doesn’t look large.]

We previously covered all the functions of the GW-BX5600, and this is the first time that we are seeing the official measurements. The two GW-BX5600 models are notably larger than the GW-M5610U and DW-5600, measuring 49.1 (L) × 49.1 (W) × 13.4 (H) millimeters and weighing 51 grams. The GW-M5610U is 46.7 x 43.2 x 12.7 mm and about 52 grams, and the DW-5600 is 48.9 × 42.8 × 13.4 mm and 52 grams. The other (and first) 5600 series with an MIP LCD, the DW-H5600 with heart rate monitor, is 51.1 x 44.5 x 17.4 mm and 59 grams. The GW-BX5600’s width is somewhat larger than we were expecting, although it makes sense that the MIP LCD display would need a larger area to prevent the digits and characters from appearing too small. The DW-H5600 and its screen are clearly larger than the GW-M5610 and DW-5600 when viewed side-by-side. It sounds like the GW-BX5600 will look even larger, although we should probably wait for some side-by-side shots before we jump to any conclusions.
