Various official G-Shock accounts on Instagram teased an upcoming collaboration with A Bathing Ape (a.k.a. BAPE) founder Nigo. Posts mention the date “August 22, 2025” and “Coming soon…” Along with G-Shock Japan and the international Asia account, several Southeast Asian accounts also posted the teasers, so we’re expecting the collaboration to at least be released throughout Asia if not worldwide. The image and video do not show any watch, but the various colors shown with background shadows of alien-like figures suggest that it could be several watches or maybe a multicolor design.
BAPE collaborations with G-Shock began in 1998 and were traditionally some of the highest-profile limited editions and popular with celebrities. Nigo previously collaborated with G-Shock creator Kikuo Ibe during the G-Shock 35th Anniversary in 2018 for the release of the DW-5635-9 and DW-6935-4, which were translucent watches with an anti-UV coating and limited to 35 watches each. Nigo currently serves as the artistic director for luxury French fashion house Kenzo.
Update: On August 22, G-Shock added a new page for the collaboration including an animated video on its websites for East and Southeast Asian countries, and it’s unclear whether this is simply an artistic project for marketing material only or if this will lead to the release of actual limited edition watches, but it’s looking like it’s the former. (There is an “Our Recommend” section on the page that is coming soon, but that sounds like it will include existing watches rather than new ones.) There are four colorful model clay characters created by Nigo that represent four iconic G-Shock models: red Goro for the DW-5000/5600, green Rock for the DW-6900, orange Wang-Teng for the GA-110, and blue Duno for the GA-2100. In the beginning of the video, there are four clay watches depicted that change into the characters, but there is no indication that they are based on real models that will be released, and the “NIGO : G-SHOCK” title (with “:” instead of “X”) suggests that this is not a product release.
