Solar-powered G-5600BG-1 with mixed recycled resin to celebrate G-Shock’s birthday and Earth Day

G-Shock G-5600BG-1 Unique Mixed Marble Style

The G-Shock G-5600BG-1 is the sort of colorway that we’re surprised is a Tough Solar-powered G-5600 instead of the basic DW-5600, but we’re not complaining as we usually prefer solar options. The G-5600 offers other enhancements as well, such as world time, 5 daily alarms, button tone on/off, and a full auto LED backlight. The watch is listed by Casio Singapore as coming soon (with no price listed yet). The watch was also announced in Japan with a tax-included price of 19,800 yen and is expected to be released worldwide. The Casio site says that this release was made to celebrate G-Shock’s birthday on April 12, which may explain the choice of the G-5600 base.
Based on the Japanese model name (G-5600BG-1JR), this model appears to be a limited edition.

The watch has a multicolored marbled style using the G-Shock signature brand colors of black, red, and yellow. The red and yellow portions are made from recycled resin scraps from the making of other parts, a technique that was previously seen with the Pro Trek PRG-340SC models. These scraps that would otherwise be discarded are powdered and then kneaded into the black resin. Due to this mixing process, each watch has a completely unique pattern and appearance (as seen in the top image). Compared to the standard G-5600UE-1 (51 grams), the G-5600BG-1 is slightly lighter at 47 grams. Like other recent G-Shock releases, the G-5600BG-1 comes in environmentally-friendly packaging. (Update: This model is also intended to commemorate Earth Day on April 22.)

Update: G-Shock U.S. released the G5600BG-1 in April 2024 for $150.
