The G-Shock GXW-56-1AJF and GXW-56BB-1JF are now sold out at the Casio Japan website. This often but not always signifies an impending discontinuation when it comes to older models. It’s reasonable to expect that these models are being discontinued, since they have the old EL backlight. Major Japanese retailers Bic Camera and Yodobashi Camera have designated both models as discontinued, which they also did with the GW-9400J-1JF before it was officially discontinued recently.
The GXW-56-1AJF and GXW-56BB-1JF were the last remaining GXW-56 models. It remains to be seen if these models will be upgraded with “U” versions with the LED light, like the GX-56BB-1 was with the new GX-56UBB-1 recently, or if there will be completely new GXW-56 colorways introduced later. Perhaps only the GX-56 series will remain, which is almost the same watch but lacking Multi-Band 6.
The GXW-56 and GX-56 series were launched in 2010 and conceived as extra-rugged versions of the classic DW-5600, featuring Tough Solar power, mud-resistant buttons, and 4-point Alpha Gel protection. They are significantly larger and thicker than the DW-5600, measuring 55.5 x 53.6 x 17.5 millimeters.
