Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) is wearing a G-Shock GBA-900 watch in a promotional image for the upcoming HBO series Lanterns, which is based on the Green Lantern comic book. Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart, a U.S. Marine veteran who is recruited by the Guardians of the Universe to be part of the Green Lantern Corps. Kyle Chandler plays fellow Lantern Hal Jordan and is wearing a power ring in the image.
The John Stewart character was first introduced in the Green Lantern comic book in 1971 and was DC’s third third superhero of African ancestry. The character gained more popularity in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited series in the 2000s. The Lanterns eight-part series is currently filming and is expected to launch on HBO in early to mid 2026. (A trailer has not been released yet.)
The G-Shock model worn by Pierre is the GBA900-1A, part of the versatile analog-digital GBA-900 series featuring a step tracker and Bluetooth smartphone link. It’s not confirmed that the watch will appear in the TV series, but it is expected to based on the image.
Lanterns is part of the new DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters overseen by James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios. Chapter One started with the Creature Commandos series in 2024 and will include various series (Peacemaker, Krypto) and movies such as Superman (2025), Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026), and Clayface (2026).
