WebChronos reviews the G-Shock GM-2110D-2A

Japanese watch site WebChronos did a hands-on review of the upcoming G-Shock GM-2110D-2A featuring some exclusive photographs and new information about the watch. The article is linked to below and translates to English well using Chrome.

The review states that the watch has a glass fiber reinforced resin case, so it is not a Carbon Core Guard like the GA-2100. (The GM-2100 is also not a CCG model.) It also states that the total weight is 143 grams, which is 22 grams less than Casio’s listed weight of the full metal GM-B2100 (165 grams). To remove links, a fork tool is required to remove the spring bars, and there is a three-level micro-adjustment on the clasp. The spring bars for the links differs from the GM-B2100 and GMW-B5000 bands, which use push pins on the links.

The review also reports that the tax-included price of the GM-2110D-2AJF is 60,500 yen in Japan. Another model that has a price of 60,500 yen in Japan (in September, taking into account the announced price increases for Japan) is the Mudman GW-9500-1JF. The GW9500-1 is currently $380 in the U.S., and it’s uncertain if G-Shock prices will also be raised in the U.S. soon, so a direct comparison may not be feasible here. (In other countries, the price of the GM-2110D is the same as the GR-B300, which is $300 in the U.S., and not the GW-9500.)

When comparing the GM-2110D-2AJF price to the GM-2100-1AJF with resin band (which will be raised to 30,250 yen in September), that is a 100% premium to have a stainless steel band and a reflective metallic dial. (The internal functions are the same as the GM-2100.) When compared to the full metal GM-B2100D-1AJF (77,000 yen), the pricier GM-B2100D-1AJF may seem like a better deal, as it also has Tough Solar and Bluetooth. In terms of actual yen, there is less of a premium for the GM-B2100 compared to the GM-2110D than there is for the GM-2110D compared to the GM-2100. (Keep in mind that when compared to other countries, the GM-2110D price in Japan seems to be proportionally higher in relation to other models, so these comparisons may apply only to Japan.)

(Update: Some dealers in Japan will reportedly be selling the GM-2110D series discounted for around 48,400 yen each.)

Disregarding the highish price, the GM-2110D-2A looks great in the review. There is a side-by-side photo with a GM-B2100 model where the GM-2110D-2A certainly holds its own. Other shots show that the metallic blue dial has a dynamic appearance under light as a result of its reflectivity, and WebChronos says that such a reflective dial is not possible on a solar-powered watch like the GM-B2100.

The review states that the watch was released in August, but we are expecting a September release.
