This is what an $8,000 G-Shock watch looks like: MRG-B2000BS

The G-Shock MRG-B2000BS-3A Hana-Basara Edition commemorates the 25th anniversary of the luxury MR-G line and has a retail price of $8,000. The watch is one of the best examples of a limited edition MR-G that infuses modern G-Shock technology with Japanese tradition and craftsmanship. Inspired by the armor of Basara samurai commanders and featuring a faceted Cobarion bezel cut and polished by award-winning artisan Kazuhito Komatsu, the watch is also notable for the dark green “kurogane-iro” hue of its DLC coating on the bezel and band. A new unboxing video released by Casio emphasizes the polished quality of the watch, which is not as apparent with some of the catalog images.

“MR-G” stands for “Majestic Reality G-Shock.” The series started in 1996 with the MRG-1, which blended a titanium case with resin exterior parts. The full-metal MRG-100 and MRG-110 were introduced in late 1996, and many full-metal models would follow over the years. Though it is mostly known as a fully analog series in recent times, there were many digital and hybrid display models in the past, and the MR-G is expected to make a return to a full digital display, in a classic 5000 series form, with the MRG-B5000 series.

A previous Casio video highlights the unique properties of the watch.

For those who want to take a deeper dive behind the making of the MRG-B2000BS-3A, Revolution Watch conducted a lengthy interview with engineer Shingo Ishizaka of Casio R&D and Kazuhito Komatsu.
