G-Shock GMD-S5600BA: A smaller square in summer pastel colors

Completing the July G-Shock releases in Japan is the GMD-S5600BA series featuring summer-inspired pastel colors. The models include the pistachio green GMD-S5600BA-3, pale orange GMD-S5600BA-4, and dusty lilac GMD-S5600BA-6. The price is 13,200 yen per model, and the series is expected to be released in other regions later.

Launched in January 2023, the GMD-S5600 series is a smaller version of the classic “square” DW-5600. It measures 45.7 x 40.5 x 11.9 millimeters and weighs 41 grams. Features include shock resistance, 200-meter water resistance, stopwatch, countdown timer with auto-repeat, multi-function alarm, hourly time signal, flash alert, and LED backlight. The battery like is approximately three years.

We noticed that all GMD-S5600 models with a positive LCD display so far have the reversing display effect with the LED backlight. The display will appear to be inverted when the LED backlight is activated, with illuminated digits on a dark background. That appears to be the case for the GMD-S5600BA series too, as the image for the GMD-S5600BA-6 backlight shows an inverted display. (In the case of the GMD-S5600-7 with an inverted display, the display remains inverted when the LED light is activated.)
